To all people of the horse, this is our film. To all people not of the horse, see this film and learn something pleasant. Said Julien to Patrick when he was roughing Pom about: 'when he grows up he'll be stronger than you, and he won't respect you then. What will you do?' Did everyone see how Elvis responded to his name? I thought, either he has a good wrangler or his name in real life really is Elvis - it was. The way the whole business was set up was very natural and typically horsey; as the Police tried to trap Mirabelle (played by two bay beauties) she did nothing phantastic; she shied intelligently but the escape looked short of miraculously clever. Nothing those horses were made to do was a departure from their own norms; even the bit with the 4*4 at the cliff: horses are sympathetic creatures and unless they bear grudges (depends on a horse's individual character)they will not consciously hurt anyone. They can be telepathic: if Mirabelle had read Patrick's malice she might have let him go, but all he was shewing was fear and shame. (Apart from the fact that they were all acting, but let us pretend that this could have happened.)I don't know any Ardennais, but I did work with Percherons, who require some tact when handled - and the biggest horse on record was an American Percheron named Dr. Le Gear! Every horse will oblige you if you like him and if he understands what you want - if he doesn't, it is your fault, not his. Julien and four tons of horseflesh shewed that perfectly. If there is anyone out there who thinks that horses obey people - ha, haaah!
