The Fly Papers: The Buzz on Hollywood's Scariest Insect (2000)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Leonard Nimoy hosts this one hour documentary that takes a look at the five films that are in The Fly franchise. Chris Walas, John Goodwin, Dana Nye, David Hedison, Ray Bradbury, Vivian Sobchack and Vincent Price (archival interview) are all interviewed about the five films in question.

This isn't the end-all, be-all documentary that some might hope for but it's certainly entertaining for what it is. The best thing is that all five films are discussed, although I must admit that a bit more honest look would have been good. I say that because CURSE OF THE FLY and THE FLY II are generally two films that are bashed to high heaven yet they are praised here. I don't know, a bit more realistic would have been nice.

There's certainly a great discussion on all five films and I thought it was a good way to introduce someone to the series. It should go without saying that THE FLY (both the original and remake) get the most amount of discussion but the sequels have some nice stories told about them as well.
