Witty Western with likable and charming characters, 29 March 2006

I came across Bang Bang quite by accident as a result of signing up to
Globo International in Australia for my Brazilian wife. Having visited
Sao Paulo last year for the first time, I was instantly hooked on
"America". I subscribed to Globo a couple of months ago hoping to catch
up on what I'd missed out on since September. Alas, America had
finished, but to my pleasure, here was Bang Bang! I must say that I'm
not the least bit proficient at speaking Brazilian Portugese, so there
is no way I can fairly comment on how stylish or trashy the dialogue
is. Sure, I understand some words (although have to ask my Brazilian
wife what is said half the time), but I just love this show.
The concept is appealingly bizarre. A show set in the American Wild
West where everyone who was anyone from that era comes to town. Zoro,
Billy the Kid & Jesse James, Calamity Jane, Tonto, even someone called
Joe Wayne (perhaps a play on John Wayne). Throw in a collection of very
attractive local women (including the whores who dress to please the
eye) and some great title music (I even bought the album for that
tune!) and you've got something worth coming back to.
All these characters together with strange plots. Billy the Kid, Jesse
James & Calamity Jane appear in drag every episode to avoid being
caught by the law, yet manage to get themselves in jail, busted out of
jail, about to be strung up on the gallows, then rescued. Ridiculous
but so refreshingly different because of it's level of lunacy.
A former Japanese whore house madame named Yoko reverting back to her
brotheling ways behind her lovers back to raise money in order to repay
a huge debt. Her love interest, a doctor who has been forced to become
a boxer yet manages to get beaten up by even the girls most of the
time.
The main characters (Ben Silver & the recently mothered Diana Bullock)
constantly see-sawing with a love-hate relationship because of Ben's
indiscretions during Diana's pregnancy and Diana's father being a rich
landowner who had Ben's family murdered. Then the two of them teaming
up to have Diana's father imprisoned for his crimes. What the....
And for a show set in the rough and violent times of the Wild West,
very few bullets are fired and no-one seems to get seriously hurt! Good
for a wider family audience.
Oh, and in the good 'ol USA where soccer has only caught on in the last
couple of decades, every episode sees a handful of the main characters
playing soccer in the main street! Sure, it's historically inaccurate
and at times it's even slap stick. And purists of drama or technically
correct acting may cringe at what they see, but the characters are very
likable, even charming. Some of the costumes are lavish. The setting
takes the viewer away from the drudgery of everyday life, the plot
twists and turns and there is non stop silliness.
But that's what I found so appealing. And bear in mind, I can't
understand the dialogue half the time yet I wait with anticipation for
10:00pm (Melbourne time) each night just to get my dose.
If you like something different and have a broad sense of humour, this
is a must. I only wish I could get it on DVD to catch up on the
episodes I missed at the start.
Highly recommended if it's your cup of tea and I'm happy to rate it 5
out of 5 even though others may hate it. Bravo!

Surely, Bang Bang was a milestone in the history of national art.
Such great works which eternal, like many Kubrick films, Bang Bang was
also hated by viewers of his time.
But this is due to one factor really easy! The novel was visionary and
your target audience meager understanding of art more sublime.
Bang Bang goes the Pulp Fiction genres in construction, however,
follows the concepts of the High Level arts background. Criticism
disguised as super intelligent dialogues cheap literature.
The main story is a tragedy in the best Greek style, real pearls and
subplots that compete with our top national stories.
Characters authentic and rich in semiology. From the likes of Ben (the
only official hero of Brazil, in part by Chico Buarque), Aquariums (a
scientist ahead of his time - that would be fish), Zorroh (which is
alluded to the concept Zorrah international heroes of Brazil). .. Pop
aesthetic with the costumes in the style of the art video games that
have more contemporary. A fantastic setting, but camouflaged within the
history of Planet Earth. Bang Bang goes into a kind of alternate
reality.
The novel was hated in Brazil because the plot was dense (because it is
tragic genre) and simple by being the contact times with humor.
Imagine a country where you only get kisses every two minutes, a novel
where the main romantic couple, alias having only two pairs of this
kind, one enjoying adventures (Ben and Daiana) and another living a
Romeo and Juliet style romance (Neon and Peny )? A villain who is worth
nothing, a real monster, but constructed so captivating as to cause the
viewer to root for both good and evil. A ship weighing anchor in the
middle of the desert, a communist building his boat in a western (such
a utopia which his personality)? It was too much for the intellect of
the masses and pseudo critical social columns.
Bang Bang is a story that has spent 17 years to build. Can not go wrong
with such dedication. What happened was an illiterate public good in
arts.

A terrible far-west comedy., 2 December 2005

Globo TV has a soap-opera who begins at 7 pm. Normally, the type of that soap-opera is a comedy. Now, Globo TV make a comedy far-west. The story is terrible, probably is the worst soap-opera made by Globo. The main actress, Fernanda Lima don't have a minimal sense of acting. Bruno Garcia ( Ben Silver) is totally lost because the Fernanda Lima's acting is so terrible and there is no actor in the world that can make a duo with this actress. Some actors trying to save the story. Paulo Miklos ( Kid Cadillac), a singer of Brazilian band Titãs, is a great actor and great performer. Eliezer Mota ( Tonto) and Sidney Magal ( Zorro), a famous singer in Brazil has made a good duo. Kadu Moliterno and Evandro Mesquita ( another singer in Brazil), are good actor. Ney Lattoraca (Aquarius Lane) trying to save the story, too. Soon, Globo TV will reduce the story because nobody has good will to see this terrible story.
