Disney's fourth installment of their much loved 'Pirates' franchise 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' will arrive in theatres next May. Rob Marshall ('Chicago', 'Nine') takes to directorial duties this time around - does this mean more musical numbers? A new teaser poster for the sequel, which won't see Orlando Bloom nor Keira Knightley returning for, has been revealed by Disney and you can check it out below. This will be the first of the Pirates movies not directed by Gore Verbinski, whom opted instead to helm the animated movie 'Rango' about a swashbuckling chameleon. Gemma Ward ('The Strangers'), Ian McShane ('Death Race'), Penelope Cruz (below), Stephen Graham ('Snatch'), Geoffrey Rush ('House on Haunted Hill') and many others all join a returning Jack Sparrow, played of course by Johnny Depp. »
This actually sounds like it could be quite fun. Heat Vision reports that Warner Bros has picked up a pitch from writers/brothers Kevin & Dan Hageman that focuses on the fictional Acme warehouse from the Looney Tunes world. They came up with the idea, independently, to create a live-action CG hybrid feature film focused around the Acme warehouse featuring the many outlandish devices that the company makes, with a tone that similar to the Amblin movies of the 1980s or a Men in Black-style movie. However, it won't actually feature any of the Looney Tunes characters. So how exactly will it work then? We're not really sure. The project is just starting to come together, but Warner Bros, who owns Looney Tunes anyway, is on-board and will develop with producers Dan Lin (The Box, Sherlock Holmes) and Roy Lee (Shutter, The Strangers, Quarantine, The Uninvited). The Acme "Factory" was »

Clients giveth, and sometimes clients taketh away, too. I've just learned that ICM has signed Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of American Idol, away from CAA (which still reps the show, however). But Matt Bomer, the star of USA Network's White Collar, and James Badge Dale, the star of AMC's Rubicon, have left ICM to go to CAA. Meanwhile, I hear that Idris Elba, who is currently an ICM client, is taking meetings with the other major agencies. (Elba is the British actor who just signed to play Alex Cross in David Twohy’s Cross based on the James Patterson novels, and stars in the 6-part BBC mini-series Luther playing another maverick cop.) British comic Steve Coogan, who has the busy production company Baby Cow, has left UTA for CAA. Finally, former Wme client Chris Offut, who wrote the Epix/Lionsgate pilot Tough Trade, has signed with ICM. Update: »

While some may say that Sony Screen Gems' upcoming thriller The Roommate is a horror and thriller that sounds like Single White Female set in a college dormitory, we argue that the movie sounds more like Singel White Female 2: The Psycho set in a college dormitory. See for yourself below as the first trailer finds college freshman Sara (Minka Kelly) meeting her new roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester) who begins to target the people in Sara's life, including her boyfriend (Cam Gigandet).

Back in 1992, Single White Female made a big splash with its creepy (and campy) tale of devotion to a roommate gone horribly wrong. Critics may not have liked it, but it did give some of us a nifty new shorthand to use when referring to our crazy ex-girlfriends. The film was bursting with murderous lesbian subtext, and it was lumped in with another movie from 1992 about homicidal lesbian/bi women, Basic Instinct.
The Roommate, slated for release in 2011, looks like it may be revisiting the same celluloid territory.
According to SlashFilm.com:
The film stars Minka Kelly as a college student named Sara who finds her safety jeopardized after she’s assigned to a dorm room with a new roommate, Rebecca (played by Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester). The film co-stars Alyson Michalka (Easy A, Bandslam), Cam Gigandet (Twilight), Matt Lanter (90210, Sorority Row), and Danneel Harris (One Tree Hill, The Back-up Plan »

Right on schedule, production on director Mabrouk El-Mechri’s (Jcvd) The Cold Light of Day began yesterday in Spain. The action-thriller is set and filmed entirely in Spain and, per the press release, focuses on “a young American whose family is kidnapped while on a vacation to Spain. He is left with only hours to find the connection between their disappearance and his father’s secrets.” Starring Henry Cavill (Showtime’s The Tudors), Bruce Willis, and Sigourney Weaver, The Cold Light of Day is the directorial follow-up to El-Mechri’s Jcvd – a film I’ve heard a ton of positive things about but am ashamed to admit I’ve yet to see. If you’re reading this, Mr. El-Mechri, you have my word that I’ll be checking it out soon enough.

I may be dating myself here, but when I was growing up I was a Huge fan of the show “Felicity“. I loved Keri Russell, who played the main character Felicity Porter, but I will admit that a big part of my obsession with the show had a lot to do with her on-again, off-again, on-again adorable boyfriend Ben Covington who was played by Scott Speedman (’Underworld’, ‘Adoration’, ‘The Strangers’). For you young bucks, “Felicity” was kind of like a collegic-level “Gossip Girl” with a smaller wardrobe budget and a late 90’s era angst.

Bryan Bertino, writer / director of The Strangers, was due to direct it, but he's currently busy with This Man over at Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. So the job of directing Black has fallen to Jonathan Jakubowicz.Nothing to do with the shoot-everything PS2 game, this thriller is being developed by Rogue Pictures, and involves a bus full of passengers being terrorized by a mysterious monster in a gruelling four-day ordeal. Four days is the timespan of the film, we should stress. We imagine the movie's actual running time will be shorter.Jakubowicz is no stranger to tense situations, having directed the kidnap thriller Secuestro Express in 2005. More recently he's been working on the border patrol drama Southbound, with Eva Mendes and Matthew McConaughey. This is his first foray into horror though, so we'll be interested to see what he makes of the material, which currently, superficially, has unfortunate echoes of Jeepers Creepers 2. »
With the fourth installment of the Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, currently filming on location in Hawaii, Disney has finally decided to release some plot details on the project. Apparently this time around Captain Jack comes across a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) who forces him on board the Queen Anne’s Revenge on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth. As it happens, she’s the daughter of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and Jack isn’t so sure who to trust, if anyone. While the description given by Disney doesn’t reveal much, it gives us a general idea of what to expect and confirms early suspicions that this new film can essentially stand on its own. It appears that the franchise will return back to basics, keeping things relatively simple story-wise. That’s certainly a welcome change of pace considering »

Supermodel turned actor Gemma Ward (The Strangers, The Black Balloon) has been cast for a role in producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall 's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. According to the report from The Courier Mail, Ward has been cast in a "small speaking part" as a mermaid, but won't shoot her scenes until August. I'm sure Ward will probably play a friend of Syrena, "a beautiful and alluring young mermaid" played by French Actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey. Previously: Ward joins the already announced cast of Johnny Depp, who is reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, Ian McShane who will play Edward Teach, better known as the legendary pirate Blackbeard, a notorious black-bearded pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of the American colonies during the early 1700s, and famously piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge, Penelope Cruz, who will be playing »

Although a few sources were originally hedging their bets on Megan Fox taking on the small part of a mermaid in the upcoming 'Pirates' sequel 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' the part has actually been given to the equally hot and saucy Australian model Gemma Ward (below). Although her acting credentials are limited it'll still be something to look forward to in the fourth installment of the Disney franchise. Rob Marshall is helming the project and Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush return to once again play their respective characters. Ward, who has appeared previously in the popular Australian movie 'The Black Balloon' also appeared as Dollface in the 2008 home-invasion thriller 'The Strangers'. »
Australian actress Gemma Ward has joined the cast of Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The former supermodel joins fellow Australian Geoffrey Rush alongside Johnny Depp for “a small speaking role” in the film, which is currently shooting in Hawaii under director Rob Marshall. Ward will play the role of a second mermaid alongside the already-cast Astrid Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, making for some very multi-national sirens. The actress, who is 23 years old and was born in Perth, also appeared in The Strangers...

As the film hoists its sales and weighs anchor to start shooting, the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is getting ever more international, with Australian model Gemma Ward signing on to play a mermaid. While the Courier Mail (via the team at Moviehole) reports that it’s just a small role, she’ll be tasked with the difficult mission of looking good while wet and enticing men, alongside Astrid Berges-Frisbey, who is playing a fellow foxy sea-dweller.Ward, last seen in The Strangers, joins a growing ensemble that includes Johnny Depp (assuming he doesn’t decided to take a break and make everyone wait to make the thing), Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, Stephen Graham, The Losers’ Oscar Jaenada, British thesp Sam Clafin and, of course, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa. Rush has been assumed as returning for a while now, but only recently put pen to paper on an official contract. »
