Probably biased, but...

I started watching this show purely out of personal interest. I know Dan personally, was present for some of the filming, know several of the "Fort Zion" and "Fort Bethlehem" men and women (and I live with two SPO members), and have been to many of the places where Dan's scenes were filmed. Once I started watching the show, I realized how awesome it is. As a non-Catholic with several Catholic friends and family, I am very intrigued by the issue of celibacy. I think this show treated this delicate struggle in a respectful light...most of the time. I am very bothered, though, by the fact that they were expected to announce their final decisions by the end of the show's run. I think the show could have been very well done even if it concluded with the four men still up in the air about their decisions. Watching Dan carry the cross, watching Joe trek to the retreat center, and watching Steve journey to Guatemala is insightful and amazing enough to see in itself. Unfortunately, we Americans like having nice neat tidy endings, which is probably why the show's producers felt the need to pressure them. I was taking a class with Dan and many of the Fort Zion men while the show was being filmed, and I could see first hand that it took a tremendous toll on them, which I felt was somewhat unfair. Overall, I highly recommend this show to everyone, especially those interested in religious issues.
