In 1990, Mandakini launched her home production banner "A.M.A Productions". It was opened in partnership with her secretary Ajit Dewan and Aditya Pancholi. They each took their respective initials and got "A (Ajit), M (Mandakini), A (Aditya)" - "A.M.A. Productions". They launched the film Naamcheen. It was then Mandakini had problems with Ajit over money. Ajit and Aditya replaced her from the film without informing her. They even completed the film without Mandakini knowing. Mandakini was awaiting the announcement of the shooting. Mandakini felt cheated by Aditya for not informing her.
Mandakini's brother Bhanu made his debut in the film.
Ajit Dewan was to make the film for another producer. During this time Ajit narrated the story to Aditya Pancholi and Mandakini who were very impressed. But the producer backed out. One day Aditya and Mandakini inquired about the project. When Ajit informed them that the film was now shelved, Aditya and Mandakini volunteered to produce the film.
