This five-part episode is notorious for its extremely bad quality animation, even by the low standards of the The Transformers (1984) series. Beginning with these episodes, South Korean animation company AKOM took over as the show's primary animation houses, and some of their worst work is on display here, with characters being wildly off-model and incorrectly colored or scaled, characters showing up in multiple places at once, the background changing from a blue sky to dark space randomly, and generally choppy animation and poor line art.
This video originally aired on "The Transformers" television series in five separate parts in an effort to continue the events that transpired during The Transformers: The Movie (1986) and lay groundwork for season 3 of the Transformers television series.
The video's cover contains numerous oddities. Despite prominently featuring Powermaster Optimus Prime, Action Master Mainframe, Pretender Cloudburst's inner robot form and Powermaster Rev, none of these characters show up in the cartoon, as they were created years after it had been produced. The only part of the cover that is accurate is the giant Quintesson head in the background, which spoils who the main villains are.
