Rushmore revisited, sunny side down
richard_sleboe31 October 2007
Knowing that everyone they would meet was fighting a hard battle, St. Paul encouraged his fellow Christians to practice kindness no matter where they went. He might as well have been referring to the teaching staff of Roundlake Elementary. Life sure isn't easy on Mitch and Candy, worn thin by domestic tyranny and utter loneliness. As a last resort, they fall for one another and make the school they work at their home away from home. "Moonpie" stands out by conveying bittersweet romance without cliché and melancholia without ennui. Fine performance by Michael MacDonald as headmaster Mitch. Very notable guest appearance by Maz Jobrani as Eduardo, the trash-toting Latino love machine. "Moonpie" does for teachers what "Rushmore" did for students. Don't miss out on this trip down faculty lane.
