In the chapter "The Road Virus Heads North", the writer Richard Kinnel seems to be himself a fan of Stephen King, as when he is running away from the ghost in his house, we can see on the floor two of King's books, "Pet Sematary" and "Tommyknockers" (42'00").

At the end of episode "Crouch End", the escaping couple see/hear names of creatures from H.P. Lovecraft, as Cthulu Kryon, Yogsoggoth, R'yeleh, Nrtesn nyarlahotep, Whistler from the Stars, Blind Piper, The Goat with a Thousand Young. Most of them from the writer's Cthulhu-myth.

Of the eight stories, only five are from the "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" collection. "Battleground" is from "Night Shift", and "The Road Virus Heads North" and "Autopsy Room Four" are from "Everything's Eventual".

In the short story "Umney's Last Case", Sam Landry's son falls off a swing and hits his head. In the TV adaptation, his son drowns in the pool.
