(This first appeared on realmoviereview.com) Jim Carrey is Walter Sparrow, an animal control officer who is given a used gift as a birthday gift by his wife, Agatha (Virginia Madsen). The name of the book is 23 and the writer, whose story we see acted out through Walters eyes, is obsessed with coincidences around the number 23. This leads to some horrifying moments for the books hero and soon Walter is also seeing the number 23 everywhere. I glanced at the digital clock nearby and luckily the digits didnt add up to 23 in any way that my little brain could come up with before my ADD kicked in and sent me to the kitchen for a snack. Whew, that was close. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the movie! So, from here, Walter becomes equally obsessed with the number 23 and the author of the book and begins investigations, as his wife and son look on with some concern.

-----------------------

Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey), an animal control officer, is bitten by a dog for the first time at work. This event causes him to be late in picking up his wife, Agatha (Virginia Madsen). Agatha is waiting for him in front of a book store, and she decides to go inside to kill some time because Walter is late. Today is Walter's birthday so she purchases a book, "The Number 23," as a gift. Walter being bitten, then being late and the purchase of this book is the beginning of a chain of events that will change their lives forever. As Walter reads the book, he finds the story is almost a parallel to his life, and the writer was writing about him. The only problem is that people in the book become obsessive with the number 23, and they end up dead. The number becomes a curse to anyone who discovers its meaning. Douglas Young (the-movie-guy)
