Dumb and Dumber To Opens November, 2014

18 November 2013 10:45 PM, PST | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

November 14, 2014 Marks Dumb and Dumber 2 Debut. I'm still bewildered that a film like this is being made to begin with. The first film of 1994 helmed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly had its 1990s comedic moments, but to bring back the Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as two less-than-intelligent leads so many years later, whether Jennifer Lawrence (still stunned that she's on board) is in the cast or not, is quite absurd. It's not like the Farrelly's have any sort of crowd pulling power like the Coen brothers, since the majority of their films after the great There's Something About Mary, well, sucked for a lack of a more fitting word - Stuck on You, Fever Pitch, The Heartbreak Kid, Hall Pass and The Three Stooges. »

Last Vegas review

31 October 2013 2:13 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Review Ivan Radford 1 Nov 2013 - 06:43

It's hardly breaking new ground, but Ivan reckons life's too short to hate films starring Kevin Kline...

"Dick." "Asshole." That's old childhood friends Paddy (the Oscar-winning Robert De Niro) and Archie (the Oscar-winning Morgan Freeman) after they reunite for a bachelor party in Vegas. The bachelor in question? Billy (the Oscar-winning Michael Douglas), a ladies' man who's found himself a girl to marry. He's in his 60s. Her age? A sprightly 32.

"I have a haemorrhoid that's almost 32!" declares Archie. Your reaction to that joke will determine whether you'll like Last Vegas or loathe it. After all, it's hardly treading new ground. In fact, Jon Turtletaub's film makes a point of treading old ground, taking The Hangover's formula and geriatrifying it for an older audience in what seems to be a risk-free move.

What's surprising, though, is that it spends a lot of time treading »

Jason Sudeikis: 'Relax. I have arrived'

15 August 2013 4:00 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

He became America's favourite clown on Saturday Night Live. But now Jason Sudeikis is forsaking primetime for a stab at the movies with the comedy We're the Millers, alongside Jennifer Aniston

• Watch the trailer for We're the Millers

• News on Sudeikis's departure from SNL

• Sudeikis on his previous collaboration with Aniston, Horrible Bosses

Kansas kids have whirlwind adventures, whether it's Dorothy en route to Oz or Jason Sudeikis tilting at movie stardom. The American comic bounces into London jet-lagged and bleary, slurping coffee from a paper cup. He has a gilded status as a Hollywood clown and a glossy fiancee in Olivia Wilde, formerly of House. He is not in Kansas any more; the place is a memory. But he is poking all kinds of fun at red-state USA.

We're the Millers casts 37-year-old Sudeikis as a Denver-based pot-dealer who changes his hairstyle and his surname in order to pass »

Box office report: 'Elysium' tops crowded weekend with $30.5 million; 'We're The Millers' strong in second

11 August 2013 10:07 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Matt Damon scored his best box office debut since leaving the Bourne franchise thanks to Elysium, which flew into first place this weekend with $30.5 million. The Neill Blomkamp-directed film started off smaller than his debut feature, District 9, which began with $37.4 million in 2009. That’s problematic for Sony, which entrusted the South African director with a $115 million budget for Elysium. If the film performs similarly to District 9, which ended its run with $115.6 million, it’s headed to a $94 million domestic finish; though, it seems unlikely that Elysium will have strong legs (even if they are robotically enhanced) given »

Jason Sudeikis Leaves 'SNL,' Hopefully to Do More Movies

Following in the footsteps of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Meyers, Jason Sudeikis is saying goodbye to "Saturday Night Live."

An eight-year veteran of the sketch series (and "SNL" writer for two years before stepping in front of the camera), Sudeikis confirmed his departure during an appearance on "The Late Show" yesterday.

"I'm definitely done," he revealed to David Letterman. "I'm not coming back next fall."

In recent years, Sudeikis has been building out his film resume, with starring roles in "Hall Pass," "Horrible Bosses," and "The Campaign."

Up next for the 37-year-old actor is "We're the Millers," in which he plays a small-time pot dealer who assembles a fake family to help him cross the Mexican border with a major drug shipment, on behalf of his mega-wealthy boss. Why 'There's Something About Mary' Is Still the Most Influential Comedy of the Last 15 Years

12 July 2013 8:30 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

It's hard to overestimate the impact of "There's Something About Mary," which celebrates its 15th anniversary this week (it was released on July 15, 1998 -- scroll down for "There's Something About Mary: Where Are They Now?").

Even casual viewers of the film can never hear the phrase "frank and beans" the same way. The Farrelly Brothers' comedy dared to go where few comedies had gone before, and where countless others have tried to go since.

"Mary" wasn't the first gross-out comedy (though it may be one of the first to make a sight gag out of a zipper-mangled penis, or a misplaced glob of body fluid). But it was the first to work that gross-out humor into a sweet romantic comedy about believable, well-rendered characters. It was, in a perverse way, a movie for everybody, with the scatological humor targeting male audiences and the character-driven romance targeting female audiences. But »
