The Notable Films of 2011: Part Five

31 December 2010 5:23 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Factory

Opens: 2011

Cast: John Cusack, Jennifer Carpenter, Ksenia Solo, Mae Whitman, Sonya Walger

Director: Morgan O'Neill

Summary: An obsessed cop is on the trail of a serial killer prowling the streets of Buffalo, New York. When his teenage daughter disappears, he drops any pretension and professional restraint he might have to get the killer.

Analysis: Shot almost three years ago now, Dark Castle had originally planned to release this thriller back in late 2009. However for reasons unspecified, it has been sitting on a shelf for some time and keeps getting delayed. In cases like these, the most obvious reason is usually the correct one - it stinks (eg. "Case 39"). The company certainly has had its fair share of box-office duds lately including "Whiteout," "Ninja Assassin," "The Losers," "Orphan" and "Splice".

Yet Cusack generally has good taste in projects, his last venture into horror was the surprisingly effective Stephen King »

‘The Mechanic’ starring Jason Statham – trailer review

29 December 2010 8:44 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

The Mechanic

Directed by: Simon West

Starring: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland

Rating: R

Release Date: January 28, 2011

Trailer Score: 8/10

My Thoughts: I’m not sure anybody’s ever been to a Jason Statham movie thinking they were walking into a thought-provoking drama or the next Citizen Kane. Let’s face it, the guys track record is a little less than stellar. I mean, Revolver? That was a bad day for Statham and Guy Ritchie. but that’s neither here nor there. The point is, with Jason Statham comes certain expectations. Violence, explosions, perhaps a certain gratuitous sex scene?

The Mechanic promises all this and more. It’s like your annual dose of testosterone wrapped up in one package. The story is somewhat lacking, with a pretty basic structure. Jason Statham takes a “kid” under his wing for personal reasons and a whole bunch of wackiness ensues. But, like I said, »

Here’s a couple of new posters for Owen Wilson’s new movie, Hall Pass!

The cast in the movie is rather extensive and great and includes Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Richard Jenkins, Christina Applegate, Alexandra Daddario, Stephen Merchant, Nicky Whelan, Larry Joe Campbell, Tyler Hoechlin, Derek Waters, Alyssa Milano, Vanessa Angel and Kristin Carey.

But when the two men begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives (Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate) take a bold approach to revitalizing their individual marriages: granting them a “hall pass,” one week of freedom to do whatever they want…no questions asked. Two new banner posters for ‘Hall Pass’

24 December 2010 11:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Here’s two new banner posters (via Impa) for Hall Pass, the latest film from the Farrelly Brothers – and one film I’ve been excited to see since it was first announced way back in January.

Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are best friends who have a lot in common, including the fact that they have each been married for many years. But when the two men begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives (Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate) take a bold approach to revitalizing their individual marriages: granting them a “hall pass,” one week of freedom to do whatever they want…no questions asked. At first, it sounds like a dream come true for Rick and Fred. But it isn’t long before they discover that their expectations of the single life-and themselves-are completely, and hilariously, out of sync with reality.

The Notable Films of 2011: Part Two

19 December 2010 2:05 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Beaver

Opens: March 23rd 2011

Cast: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence

Director: Jodie Foster

Summary: A depressed toy company CEO with a failed marriage starts to wear a beaver puppet on his hand as a form of therapy, much to the initial bemusement of his family. He soon begins talking only through the character.

Analysis: This time last year, excitement was quietly brewing for "The Beaver". Gibson's drunken tirade a few years before hand wasn't forgotten, but enough time had passed that this looked to be the year of a potential comeback for the actor.

The thriller remake "Edge of Darkness" and this were his first on screen roles in ten years, 'Beaver' is also his "Maverick" co-star Foster's return to the director's chair fifteen years after her last feature. The script topped the 2008 Black List and scored rave reviews for its blend of sophisticated humor and sad pathos, »

The Farrelly Brothers’ ‘The Three Stooges’ Moves to Fox, Begins Production in March 2011

2 December 2010 1:38 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Looks like the movie revamp of The Three Stooges isn't as dead as former cast member Jim Carrey thought [1]. After a decade of flitting from one studio to another, the film was lodged at MGM. With that company's bankruptcy clearing up, a path has led the project to Fox, which will put it into production on March 14, 2011. Peter and Bobby Farrelly will direct from the script they penned with Mike Cerrone. The big question is: who will star? There are some big shoes to fill. In addition to the original Stooges, who indelibly defined the characters, there was the all-star cast famously assembled for this film two years ago: Sean Penn as Larry, Benicio Del Toro as Moe, and Jim Carrey as Curly. Sean Penn left when he had family issues to sort out, with Paul Giamatti eventually stepping into [2] that role, but the delay in production caused the entire »

First Look At The Comedy Team From Horrible Bosses

24 November 2010 5:17 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Warner Bros. has released several images and synopses for its 2011 comedy line-up including Crazy, Something Borrowed, and Hall Pass, but the most exciting release is this first image from Horrible Bosses which shows off maybe the funniest comedy trio since the Three Amigos. Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day spread hilarity on SNL and It.s Always Sunny respectively, and Jason Bateman... well, he.s Jason Bateman, goddamn it. He was on Arrested Development for Christ.s sake. The man knows comedy. This team has joined forces for Seth Gordon who has given us quite a spread of content. His comedy background has him directing at least one episode of each of the NBC Thursday shows (save 30 Rock), Community, The Office, and Parks and Recreation, as well as an episode of Modern Family. The film.s support is also very impressive. Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland, »

Jenna Fischer Talks To Melissa From Wamg

16 November 2010 2:49 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Hi all… Melissa, your beloved geek here. I just had the privilege of talking with Jenna Fischer, star of the upcoming indie film A Little Help, and Hall Pass. (Do I need to mention that she plays the role of Pam on The Office). She was extremely nice, and very sweet. I thank her much for her time. So, naturally I have to share it with my fellow geeks!!! Enjoy!!

Your character is very relatable and real. How did you prepare for such an intense role?

The character that I play is so unlike me. At the same time it was fun playing such a misfit. I actually had to learn to smoke for this role, because I don’t smoke. I am not a beer drinker either. For most big budget movies, they will make cans with fake beer in them, but for an indie film, they just don’t have the budget. »

Trailer Park: “Jane Eyer” teaser and a longer “Tron” clip

10 November 2010 5:13 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: When it rains exclusive footage, it pours.

We ran a Trailer Park entry on the site the other day because a trio of comedies and one or two dramas decided to release advance trailers, giving us the first look at “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson and the romantic comedy “No Strings Attached,” with Ashton Kutcher an Natalie Portman.

But why stop there? Even more trailers are pouring onto the Web, teasing some anticipated holiday titles and looking ahead to 2011 dramas, as well.

On “Tron Tuesday,” for instance, Disney unveiled its longest look at December’s “Tron: Legacy,” which stars a young Jeff Bridges (ah the magic of digital technology) and Garrett Hedlund in a sequel to the science fiction video game adventure. The clip fills in more of the plot, and shows off more of the film’s futuristic effects. Click the link to re-enter Flynn’s Arcade. »

New trailer: The Farrelly Brothers’ Hall Pass

7 November 2010 11:21 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Can The Farrelly Brothers recapture their 90s comedy magic? Here’s the new trailer for Hall Pass

It's hard to find a movie since the release of There's Something About Mary and Kingpin where The Farrelly Brothers have really delivered. Perhaps that's why they appear to be going a bit back to basics with their latest venture, Hall Pass, a film about two guys who get a week off from their marriage to do what they want.

Our guess as to what will happen? There will be lots of gross-out humour, lots of staring at women, a bit of male bonding, and at the end of it all, nobody will do anything and they'll all think that their marriage is perfect.

The film stars Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis (and it's great to see Stephen Merchant in there, too), and it arrives in Us cinemas next February. The first trailer for it has just arrived, »
