An excellent film with a very whacked out mix of live action and animation. It looks sort of like the drawings were actually done right on top of the film, which maybe they were. The visuals are quite bizarre, and it's easy to get lost in all the strange little psychedelic wackiness taking place throughout the film, along with the sounds and costumes which are frantic, messy, and all over the place.
The story is difficult to follow, but it has to do with a guy named Blow. He needs a heart transplant, and the doctor's decide to steal the heart from another patient for him. This is when it begins to get weird. Sir Blow, the victim patient, and a nurse end up journeying through Heaven and Hell to find a golden cup. In Heaven they meet a very insane Jesus, who finds pleasure in making people jump over a razor wire until it eventually cuts their feet off. The Heaven shown in this film is full of wackiness and dirty mutated animal people.
There's a mostly animated short film called The Thief of Sydney, that gets played before Virgin Beasts starts. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic Sydney, where the police are pigs, and people have "sound surfing" competitions. After a nuclear holocaust, Australia is now under the rule of a Dr. Turd. Sort of runs into the full length feature. I found it to be quite interesting and enjoyable.
Well, I had trouble following it, but the visuals, sounds, ideas, costumes, and general wackiness of the film was sheer genius. I actually had to watch this movie twice, because the first time it just didn't make much sense to me. You should definitely purchase this if you enjoy Troma films, and wish to see some a very amazing animated live action film.
