We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but you really hate those 3D glasses-- oh, who are we kidding: you’re gonna see Avatar this weekend if you have to knock over someone’s granny for a ticket. But just in case you’re feeling the slightest bit guilty about having to mug an old lady, and you think you might want to try to replicate that immersive IMAX experience with your puny TV and 2D DVD player... well, forget it. It’s impossible. But here’s how you can come as close as possible.
Instead Of: Avatar, the gorgeously enrapturing journey to an alien planet James Cameron leads us on...
Watch: Seriously, there is no home-theater experience in 2009 that can replicate the sense that you’ve actually been to another planet that Avatar offers. But the story that goes with those visuals is another thing entirely.

Bryan Singer Talks His Return to X-Men! New Writer Hired for First Class

The Official Avatar Myspace Site had a major news drop with the announcement that, director Bryan Singer is headed back to the franchise he pioneered…that’s right he is coming back to X-Men!
“I just yesterday signed a deal to do an origins picture, which is kind of cool. I’m very excited.”
X-Men: First Class is expected to inject a next-gen sensibility into the series. – The studio has been leaning toward using the younger characters introduced in the previous in future installments –teenagers with powers taught at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
Resulting film would likely draw from elements of the Marvel Comics of the same name, launched in 2006, and enlist such characters as Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat, who have appeared prominently or made cameos in prior pics.
This is obviously a groundbreaking turn of events for the franchise as Singer’s vision will remain constant in a prequel.

New Trailer for The Crazies

A new trailer for Breck Eisner's remake of The Crazies has arrived online. While this trailer lacks the awesomeness of Gary Jules' "Mad World" from the first trailer, it does look like it's trying to appeal even more to zombie fans.
While George Romero's 1973 original was not really a zombie movie, the remake seems to be trying to go in that direction, with all the open-mouthed, veined-face "crazies" in the trailer. Starring Timothy Olyphant (Scream 2), Radha Mitchell (Rogue), Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) and Justin Welborn (Dance of the Dead, The Signal), The Crazies opens February 26, 2010.

*Cht is nearing 100 posts, so we decided to induct Radha Mitchell who starred in Silent Hill and Rogue, one of the best killer animal movies ever! You can also catch Micthell in Breck Eisner's upcoming Crazies remake on February 26, 2010.
Mitchell has appeared nude in High Art (1998) and Feast of Love. She was also recently in Surrogates with Bruce Willis and starred in Pitch Black with Vin Diesel. A very impressive resume and the reason we are welcoming her to our Cht section.

Red Cliff
John Woo hasn’t exactly lit up the screen with his Hollywood films has he? Face/Off is enjoyable I guess but the less said about Windtalkers, Paycheck and even Mission Impossible 2 the better really. It’s a shame because the man is capable of directing action sequences better than anybody else on the planet.
Red Cliff sees John Woo look to Chinese history for inspiration. It’s a sweeping, magnificent epic that looked amazing on the big screen.
The Han dynasty is coming to an end in third century China so as a last ditch attempt for survival the Emperor raises an army that stretches close to a million to attack the two neighbouring kingdoms.
Red Cliff boasts beautiful cinematography and action set pieces. It’s great to see a Director back at the top of his game.
Looks incredible on Blu-Ray.
Damage
Leave your brain at the door for this one.
