Nancy Drew accompanies her father on a business trip to Los Angeles California. Nancy booked an abandoned house for them to stay in hiding the mystery of a movie star's murder from her father as a promise that she would stay out of trouble and be normal. Fitting into high school as a normal teen turns out to be harder than it sounds, for Nancy Drew. She soon befriends a younger boy and determines that the sleuthing world is where she belongs. While snooping through the attic, she finds a letter from the Hollywood star, Dehlia Draycott, written to someone named 'Z'. This leads Nancy on a wild goose chase as she comes to find out that Dehlia has a secret daughter, her daughter is to inherit everything and someone killed Dehlia because they were written out of the will. Nancy's evidence shows that Dehlia Draycott (the actress whose death forms the basis for the mystery) died of drowning in 1981 at the age of 43. This closely mirrors the real-life death of actress Natalie Wood, who drown while yachting off Catalina Island in 1981, at the age of 43. See more »
Nancy is told by the real-estate agent that a house involved in a murder mystery would be more expensive. These are actually known as 'stigmatized properties' in the trade and are usually worth less, not more. See more »

Good fun, got my daughter wanting read the old series! A win-win!
I disagree with previous comment about this movie. I think it was cute and fun and it carried a good message for young girls like my daughter. You don't have to dress like a cheap hooker to be cool. You can be smart and pretty and classy all at once.
I think the cast was good and the story was fine for the target audience. All-in-all my wife, daughter (10) and I each thought it was a good movie. I certainly recommend it. It also has encouraged my daughter to start reading the original Nancy Drew mysteries which I am sure she will love much as I loved the Hardy Boys.
It was a struggle to get her to sleep tonight because she wanted to start reading right away. I can't think of a better outcome for that movie than rekindling interest in that classic series.
