Weekend Report: Moviegoers Go 'Home,' 'Get Hard'
DreamWorks Animation's Home (2015) was a huge hit with family moviegoers this weekend, taking first place with an excellent $52.1 million. Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard also put up strong numbers in second place, while indie horror movie It Follows did decent business in its nationwide expansion.Among recent family-friendly movies, Home's $52.1 million debut is in the same ballpark as Big Hero 6 ($56.2 million) and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water ($55.4 million). It also ranks as one of the top non-sequel movies ever for DreamWorks, behind Kung Fu Panda ($60.2 million) and Monsters Vs. Aliens ($59.3 million). In fact, it's the biggest debut for a DreamWorks movie since its distribution deal began with 20th Century Fox in early 2013; that includes How to Train Your Dragon 2, which opened to $49.5 million last June.If Home follows the same pattern as Monsters vs. Aliens and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, it will finish with around $180 million.

'Party Down South' producer talks 'Jersey Shore,' 'Bachelor'
If you've never heard the name SallyAnn Salsano, you most certainly know the shows she's produced. She's been a showrunner on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette," and she's also the brains behind MTV's highest-rated series, "Jersey Shore." The Long Island native now has a very different kind of success in "Party Down South," which has its season finale tonight (Thurs. March 20 at 10:00 p.m. Et on Cmt). The highest-rated show in the network's history, "Party Down South" follows a group of young, wild Southerners as they get drunk and get busy. I talked to Salsano, who is just as uncensored and fun as you'd expect someone willing to deal with pre-baby Snooki to be, about the show, her secrets to success, and what she's watching now (set your DVRs!).   There's a lot of reality TV on right now that just isn't clicking, despite seeming to fulfill all the requirements (wacky characters,

Russell Crowe's Noah buoys an unsinkable career arc

He goes forth; he multiplies. Russell Crowe's latest choice of role is divinely inspired – and further lands him in the footsteps of Hollywood greats such as Heston, Burton and Flynn

Reading on mobile? Click to view

Whether because of deep personal ambition or a sense of having come to American cinema as an outsider, the New Zealand-born Russell Crowe's role choices have often suggested a desire to belong to great Hollywood traditions.

Gladiator looked back to historical blockbusters such as Cleopatra and Ben-Hur, Cinderella Man joined the line of boxing movies that includes Raging Bull, and Robin Hood directly overlapped with one of the signature performances of an earlier leading man from the Antipodes, Errol Flynn. Even Crowe's recent cameo in Man of Steel – as Superman's dad – happened to take on a part formerly played by a cinematic legend, Marlon Brando.

And now the history man seems to be at it again.

Tags: Pretty Little LiarsLiz CarmoucheIMDb

Good morning, Brewbies! Welcome to Monday! Trish Bendix is taking a much deserved vacation to celebrate her birthday, so wish her a happy one in the comments, and she'll be back with you tomorrow!

ABC Family has released a couple of previews from the winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars— hurry up, January 8th — and boy, is it good to see our girls together again.

Now, bring on the Paige McCullers.

Last Thursday, Liz Carmouche became the first openly gay lady to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Despite the fact that she worried she might come up against some homophobia in the sport, she told Sports Illustrated that she was going to remain true to herself and her sexuality: "There's no amount of money that's going to make me go back in the closet." The 28-year-old former marine, who served in Iraq during "Don't Ask,

Watch: Nicki Minaj's 'Freedom' breaks out of black and white

Watch: Nicki Minaj's 'Freedom' breaks out of black and white
Nicki Minaj's does good work repeating her own lyrics back to herself in "Freedom," but in the video she's rocking looks we've never seen before. The clip starts out in black and white, and transitions into color (get it? Freedom from the confines of black and white? Or something? Anyway) as Minaj poses elegantly against Noah's Arc to mansion banisters to modern sculpture. It's the rapper-singer through the ages, an eternal beauty proudly hocking her wares from Macy's. One repeating motif in this epic is Minaj's inability to quit touching her hair. Her many wigs are no match for wandering fingertips,...

The 9 Most Unintentionally Scary Movies

  • NextMovie
It's happened to all of us: you go to a movie expecting a thoughtful drama or lighthearted romp. No one warned you — it was all a sick trick to expose you to a vision as bloodcurdling as any "Saw" sequel.

Two hours later, you stumble into the lobby, unsure whether it's tears or your last meal welling up. Maybe it was a disturbing truth exposed in the film that did it. Or maybe the line between surrealist daydream and psychotic nightmare was inadvertently crossed. In honor of Halloween, here's our list of top 9 movies that failed to warn us in the commercials that they'd scar us for life.

9. 'Kids' (1995)

Horror Genre: The "Kids Today Are Out of Control!" grimy drama

Not to be confused with the adorable documentary "Babies" (2010), "Kids" tells the story of Telly, a teenage kleptomaniac who spends his free time -- when he's not stealing or taking

News

Expect to see more of Emily's classmate from the vengeance dojo. Barry Sloane has been promoted to a series regular on Revenge with the potential to return in a potential third season.

CBS has ordered a full season of Vegas and Elementary, both shows I liked but haven't had time to keep watching.

Er. Wow. You know Jeremy Davies' odd haircut at the Emmys? The one we thought was an expression of his character's strangeness until he stepped onto the Emmy stage? It turns out he showed up on the set of Justified with that haircut and they decided to use it.

While I agree the characters on Happy Endings are pretty terrible people, that makes senes if you don't think of it as a Friends clone but rather as the successor to Seinfeld. Bad as the He gang might be,

Darryl Stephens on Frank Ocean, the "Noah's Arc" Typecasting Trap and New Series "Dtla"

A group of friends dealing with life and love…blending elements of both comedy and drama…set in Los Angeles…airing on Logo…and starring Darryl Stephens.

Based on that description, you might think the show we’re talking about is Noah’s Arc, the series that aired on Logo from 2005-2006 and then wrapped up in a big screen movie in 2008. However, this is 2012 and we’re talking about the new series, Dtla. Created by Larry Kennar (The L Word), the show premieres this week on Logo. Compared to Noah's Arc, it's arguably a more mature take on relationships, family, love and careers as seen through the eyes of a group of twenty-to-thirty-something friends.

And, yes, Darryl Stephens leads the cast as Dtla’s Lenny but, as he told AfterElton last week during a sit-down in West Hollywood, this isn’t a continuation of the role that made him famous.

Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies

  • The Backlot
Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.

But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.

We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the

Morning Meme: Trevor Donovan Will Return to "90210," The Entire Cast Will Return to "Glee," and Anderson Cooper: Day Two

I invite everyone to start off the day the way I do every morning. With a Happy Ending.

There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that Ed had his electricity restored last night, and will resume his magical Meme powers tomorrow. The bad news is that our leader Dennis is still without, and our thoughts go to him and the hundreds of thousands who are still trying to cope.

Please join me at 1:00 Pm Et for a Days Of Our Lives Liveblog. For technical reasons, we're trying something a little different today. Hopefully it won't blow up in our faces, but if it does, that could be fun, too!

A programming note: Tomorrow is a holiday in the U.S., and Ae will be shut down with the exception of a Meme and a Liveblog. Join us back on Thursday for a full schedule! Oh,
