There are two basic types of celebrity interviewers: 1) the kind that occasionally ask provocative questions, and 2) the kind that kiss the celebrities' behinds.

Guess which group Lipton belongs to.

Watching James Lipton interview actors is one of the most unpleasant viewing experiences of my entire life. The sycophantic, slimy banter coupled with the predictable phony chuckles and fake grins exemplifies Hollywood in its "rawest" form. Lipton is like a failed agent or movie critic who somehow found a niche for himself in letting everyone know what a CRAFT acting really is, while showing off his beautifully dyed hair. (Then again, maybe he's a failed actor; his exhibitionistic narcissism would certainly fit with that.) To b******t about the alleged deeper layers of acting is something any charlatan or bird-brain can do. That word, "craft", is much-abused and frequently clung on to by nearly everyone in Hollywood who take both themselves and their overrated jobs far too seriously. It isn't really the Michael Caines of this world who will drone on pretentiously about their "craft"; it's the Clint Eastwoods and the Kenneth Branaghs that will - and they are just the tip of the useless iceberg of stuck-up yet notoriously insecure Hollywood actors. Even the star-struck, gullible, wide-eyed young would-be thespians in the audience do not annoy as much as Lipton when they pose their banal, predictable, and daft questions which often resemble hollow and dull over-adulatory praise rather than genuine inquiries. Lipton always manages to top them with his own unique brand of unintelligent babble.

"James Lipton Takes On Three" is only redeemed by a hint of Morgan Freeman's down-to-Earth presence. Swank and Eastwood, the other two stars of the overrated "Million Dollar Baby" fiasco, have their heads firmly placed up their...

Obviously the makers of the MDB DVD needed someone to interview the movie's ARTISTS, so they must have figured "who better suited for the job than Lipton, who will make sure our 3 actors are treated with total and utter worship". Lipton must have surpassed all their expectations: his idolatry tone, and his total subservience in the company of these three LEGENDS could not have been achieved even by the worst of them, not even by Barbra Walters or Arsenio Hall.

Simply unbearable.
