Idea behind it has merit but you wouldn't know it from the simplistic delivery

A man falls asleep watching television and wakes up during the night to find that the channel has turned to static. When he tries to turn it off though he finds that this is not as easy as it should be.

Like many others I am very aware of the fact that we are now a 24 hour a day media culture. I think my generation is the last that will remember the days when the end of the day was marked by the playing of the national anthem on the television followed by 8 hours of scrolling Ceefax (which, kids, is like the internet but really, really basic). Now we have rolling news coverage and round the clock broadcasting on countless television and radio stations globally. I watch lots of movies, listen to music or the radio in the car and even fall asleep with BBC Radio Five in the background while at work I am constantly plugged into something with my mobile and email. This is a very modern thing and it is this that this short film looks at.

Unfortunately it looks at it in such a basic and obvious fashion that it has almost nothing to say beyond the fact that it is impossible to switch this constant world off. The idea is simple but sadly the delivery is as well. The one shot is simple and even the technical aspect of the two screens swapping images didn't convince or impress me. Overall, despite the worth message behind the film, it is a film that feels a bit too long even though it only runs to about two minutes.
