Anna Kendrick Sings Again in Adaptation of 'Last Five Years' Musical

22 October 2012 10:06 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

After making her mark in 2007's indie Rocket Science, Anna Kendrick has often played the same sort of fast-talking Type-a personality on screen. She earned an Oscar nomination doing a similar routine in Up in the Air, but she also proved she has impressive musical skills in this month's buzzed-about comedy Pitch Perfect. Now Moviehole reports that one of Kendrick's upcoming projects will allow her to put her pipes on display again, as she'll star in a film adaptation of the stage musical The Last Five Years, a love story told backward and forward at the same time through the perspectives of the two people involved. More below. Filmmaker Richard Lagravenese (finishing up Beautiful Creatures, of Living Out Loud, P.S. I Love You and Freedom Writers previously) is writing and directing the film, which is based on Jason Robert Brown's play about the struggles of a relationship. It sounds »

Anna Kendrick Talks Pitch Perfect, Singing Live on Set, Interacting More on Twitter, Her Love of Reddit, and More

Now playing in theaters is director Jason Moore's great musical comedy Pitch Perfect.  Written by Kay Cannon (New Girl, 30 Rock), the film tells the story of Beca (Anna Kendrick), a goth-like rebellious teen that dreams of being a music producer, but instead finds herself in an all-female a cappella singing group at Barden University.  Led by great performances from the entire cast and fun takes on classic and new songs, Pitch Perfect is definitely worth your time this weekend.  The film also stars Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Adam Devine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.  For more on the film, here are seven clips and all our previous coverage. At the recent Los Angeles press day I got to sit down with Anna Kendrick for an exclusive interview.  We talked about how she got involved, her reaction to the finished film, the great script, if »

Trailer, Poster & New Images For Musical Comedy 'Pitch Perfect' Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson & Elizabeth Banks

15 June 2012 6:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Since first appearing in Jeffrey Blitz’s fictional film directorial debut, “Rocket Science,” Anna Kendrick has proved herself to be a strong supporting playing in films as varied as the “Twilight” franchise, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and “Up In The Air.” She’s now finally stepping into a leading lady role with the comedy “Pitch Perfect.”

The first trailer for the film, based on the book written by Mickey Rapkin and helmed by veteran TV director Jason Moore, has been released and shows a change of direction for the actress. She stars as Beca, a girl who’d rather listen to what’s coming out of her headphones than what’s coming out of you. Arriving at her new college, she finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into an a-capella group. When Beca takes this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional »

Showtime Picks Up 'Masters Of Sex' With Michael Sheen & Lizzy Caplan

12 June 2012 10:45 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

After losing Paul Bettany to his flighty scheduling before replacing him with the equally incredible Michael Sheen, there was little to be heard about Showtime's latest pilot, “The Masters of Sex,” which also starred Lizzy Caplan in a lead role. However, just as one was beginning to believe a “The Corrections”-esque denial had taken place, news comes today that the network has picked the hour-long show up for a full season run, in addition to another family drama with Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan.”

Showtime has ordered 12 episodes of both series, which each offer compelling aspects in their own right. 'Masters” follows Sheen and Caplan as William Masters and Virginia Johnson, two real-life pioneers of human sexuality in the 1960s Midwest, responsible for a number of self-volunteered research studies as well as a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson's talk show couch. Created by Michelle Ashford and adapted from Thomas Maier »

Anna Kendrick: 'It's all about that fatal flaw'

24 May 2012 4:07 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

From ruthless debate-team captain to corporate axe-wielder, Anna Kendrick tells how strident character choices allow her to live out a personal fantasy of assertiveness

It's a shock to find Anna Kendrick curled up in a bathrobe when I enter her hotel suite. On closer inspection, though, the 26-year-old turns out to be beneath the robe, rather than inside it. "I do have clothes on under here," she squeaks. "It's just so cold." She is perky, with subtly Manga-esque features – wide-open eyes and a tiny, expressive mouth – but she hasn't had the most relaxing morning. Whisked to Salford at bleary o'clock to appear on breakfast TV, she got stuck in traffic on the way back to London and hasn't eaten all day, hence the pizza that she begins nibbling on while we talk.

Not that Kendrick would bemoan her lot. "I'm the person who wouldn't send back my food even if »
