15 Year History Of One Of The Best WWE Superstars Ever
danielmiller19858 November 2005
'Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker' is just as incredible as I expected it to be...To be honest, what do u expect from one of the greatest legends in WWE history? Undertaker beats just about every WWE icon thinkable with his Choakslam and Tombstone. For me every single match on this DVD sums up what Undertaker's legacy is all about, and you can see from his spine-tingling entrances (sometimes accompanied by Paul Bearer) how much he changes in his decade and a half of destruction. What also really impressed me about the structure of the DVD was the narrator, he has the best possible voice you would want to hear, as his creepy tone links with the mysterious and dreary atmosphere you can only experience from the Undertaker. This DVD is perfect for showing off Undertaker's every attribute. We are treated to a chronological account of his best matches, the DVD progresses like a story, and then you see the full match as proof. Also the extras really compliment the many story-lines and feuds Undertaker has been part of. This DVD is one of my crucial possessions as a massive Undertaker fan, and it's a must have for every WWE fan - Past, Present and Future!!!! Undertaker is one of those rare superstars who is honored by all of his peers, and of course the whole World. Undertaker's Legacy will last forever!!!! Rest In Peace Deadman!!!!

Great Documentary, Inadequate Packaging
fritzfassbender13 September 2008
This DVD presents itself as a straight-forward presentation of matches, but when I started watching it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually a full fledged documentary on The Undertaker's 15 year WWE career, as well as featuring unedited matches (including entrances!).

However, while the segment before the '91 Hogan match is very detailed, after that the documentary features just sort of skim over what happened in between each match or reuse promo footage, even forgetting to mention certain highlights of UT's career (like the '96 Phantom mask or his Hardcore Championship reign). But at least it does have more than just the matches.

And as for the matches selected, no complaints here. While not every single bout is a classic, they are all essential in that they either show important moments or document eras in The Phenom's career (except that John Cena match, what's that doing there?) The pixalation over the 'WWF' can be an eyesore, but there's nothing that can be done about that.

The extras are, except for a couple of pretty good matches, inadequate. Instead of interviews, which mostly feature the incredibly irritating Paul Bearer, it would have been better to have the promo films for all of the matches instead, kind of like HHH's 'That Damn Good' DVD. Then maybe the documentary could have been a little more focused.

The only thing that's truly disappointing about this set is the lack of involvement from The Undertaker himself. I can only assume the WWE is trying to maintain the integrity of The Undertaker's silent Deadman character; as the real Mark Calaway takes a great deal of pride in his career and accomplishments, I'm sure he would have participated if asked.

The DVD case is pretty silly with the single box, stack-the-DVDs-on-each-other set up. And the cover is really dumb looking, it looks like he's walking under the sea.

The crux of the biscuit is that even though this is a rushed and somewhat badly produced tribute, it's still by a mile the greatest Undertaker compilation ever and, as he is one of the WWE's immortals, one of the all time best wrestling DVDs. I greatly enjoyed it.

Warning: Spoilers
If you are an undertaker or just a wrestling fan this is your documentary it has all the big fights and such for example the first ever inferno match undertaker vs Kane so it's the perfect wrestling DVD even if it is nine hours long just about but if you buy the DVD you can always watch a little part of it for a few days and i can recommend that you see the "this is my yard" video first cause there you'll see some of the things that you can say leads up to what you will see in Tombstone it's wrestling at it's best and ugliest like the undertaker vs mankind Hell in a cell match probably the bloodiest match ever

BUY AND WATCH IT OR YOU*LL NEVER REST........IN.........PEACEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rest in Peace

Warning: Spoilers
what else can be said, a great documentary of a great wrestler. For those who haven't follow the amazing career of the Deadman in wwe this DVD is a good way to star to learn something of the real icon of the wrestling industry and wwe itself and a fabulous gift for those like me whose have a big respect for him and has been followers of the Undertaker since his beginning in wwe,i have to admit that a little is known of his career before entering in wwe. The truth is that The Undertaker really set new standards in sport entertainment, that creepy look and perhaps that never seen before ally of the dark side is what really make his character unique. In this DVD we have the bests moments of the Deadman in wwe, his classics matches against Mankind, Hulk Hogan, Kane, the amazing "Hell in a Cell" matches maybe bloodiest ever and promos that are very delightful to watch and remember. Three DVDs, nine hours in total that didn't seems so, a really amazing unstoppable career of destruction. For wrestling and wwe fans Tombstone is a must, perhaps the ironic part in all Undertaker's career is that his legacy will never REST IN PEACE.

Excellent look at the career of a legend
bh_tafe34 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
To my regret I've actually lost the first disc to this three disc set, meaning that I lose some of the Bret Hart/ Undertaker matches, but on the whole the best parts of Undertaker's career came later and I have both Hart matches on other DVDs so no huge loss.

First thing to note, this DVD was released before the Undertaker's back to back title victories at Wrestlemania, so neither one is on this disc. This isn't a look at the life of Mark Calloway, it's a look at the career of the Undertaker so all we have are a few interviews with some of the Undertaker's opponents and a deep voiced narrator introducing matches, but it does the job of explaining where each and every math fits in with the Undertaker's career. It is very well done.

Now to the matches. It starts off with The Undertaker winning the WWE Title from Hulk Hogan at Survivor Series 1991. While not a great match, and despite the fact that he lost the title 9 days later, this had to be included. Next is the memorable casket match against Yokozuna from the 1994 Royal Rumble where it would eventually take more than a dozen men to subdue the Undertaker and get him in the casket. This is followed by an entertaining match with Kevin Nash (Deisel) from Wrestlemania 12. For all the IWC purists out there, no it's not a technical masterpiece, but tells a fun little story well. Two matches from the Undertaker's epic rivalry with Mankind are included, one from 1996 and one form 1997. Both are good matches. The disc ends on the highest note possible with two excellent matches with Bret Hart, including his title loss to Hart at Summerslam 1997 and then a failed attempt to regain the title in England a month later.

The second disc starts with two exceptional matches involving Shawn Micheals. A well done first time ever match at Ground Zero and then a Hell in a Cell match at Badd Blood a month later which is one of the best matches ever to take place in the WWE. Undertaker loses this match thanks to Kane which led to the next match on the disc the Kane/ Undertaker from Wrestlemania 14, a slightly sloppy match, and then their memorable Inferno match from Unforgiven a month later. Next on the disc The Undertaker returns to the Hell in a Cell match for his classic spotfest with Mankind at King of the Ring 1998.

Next comes the Undertaker forming the Ministry, then the Corporate ministry, then winning the WWE Title. He successfully defends the title in a typical attitude era main event against the Rock at King of the Ring 1999. Next match is his First Blood loss to Steve Austin at Fully Loaded 1999, another great example of an attitude era main event. The DVD explains Undertaker's transition to a biker in 2000 and then goes to another classic match, the ill-tempered and creative brawl with Triple H from Wrestlemania X-7. We get one match from his heel turn in 2002, and that of course is his winning the WWE Title from Hulk Hogan at Judgment Day in a disappointing match. Next up is another great match as Undertaker loses a classic Hell in a Cell WWE Title match to Brock Lesnar. Arguably Brock's finest hour, though he did have several. Next is a fair match with John Cena from Vengeance 2003 which Taker wins after quite a fight. Next is the Buried Alive match with Vince McMahon from Survivor Series 2003, won by McMahon after interference from Kane, which leads into another match with Kane at Wrestlemania 20. Nowhere near as good as their first match, and seemed more comedy driven then anything. The series ends on a high note with The Undertaker's WWE Title match against Kurt Angle from SmackDown in 2003. A great contest interrupted by Brock Lesnar at the finish.

All in all this is a terrific production that delivers exactly as it promises "The History of the Undertaker" while delivering some great matches. If you are a fan of the Undertaker or pro wrestling you will love this.

How could the do this to us?
Skoveng778 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Undertaker is my absolute favorite in WWE, bar none. He has outmatched Hogan, Rock, Austin and Cena in popularity, hands down. He is the WWE's best commodity, no contest.

Now, the WWE go out and make this tribute film about him (This is not a biographical documentary, it's a Best Matches Of), and they mess it up! I felt a bit guilty when I slaugthered my all-time favorite movie Gladiator, but this time I know I can rant, criticize and butcher as I damn please. Because this is not Undrtaker's fault, it's WWE's.

Tombstone is a three disc feature, so I'm going to start from the beginning, with disc 1: First full match is the WWF Title match at Survivor Series 1991 versus Hulk Hogan. Sure, I agree that this match should be included, but it took place A FULL YEAR AFTER his actual debut. He debuted at Survivor Series in 1990! Then, there's TWO matches with Mankind. I know that Mankind and 'Taker had a really long feud going, but two matches? And if any, why not the Boiler Room Brawl? Maybe not a good match, but famous. The extras include one more match, and the only reason I let ANOTHER double-feature (two matches, same opponent) slide, is the fact that the opponent is Bret Hart. On disc 2, things gets worse: ANOTHER double feature!! Two matches with Shawn Michaels! I do admit that one of them is the first ever Hell In A Cell, and that match is important (not to forget that Michaels is a great performer), but they should have let it be with that. Then there's ANOTHER double-feature!! Or maybe I should say a Triple, since Kane was also in the Hell In A Cell? Either way, we're given their Wrestlemania XIV match, and their following Inferno match at Unforgiven. Both matches is very good (actually, I would say the Inferno match is really great), but just one would do. I'd go for the Inferno match. Then, ANOTHER Mankind match!?? This is the very famous Hell In A Cell match at King of The Ring 1998 (which I have marked as my all-time favorite among any, a-n-y, WWE match), but this only proves my earlier statement that there wasn't any need for two Mankind matches on disc 1. The last match on disc 2 is the last match I would ever want to see again as long as I live: His WWF Title match versus The Rock at King of The Ring 1999. Pointless. The match is only so-so, and doesn't add anything. I don't bother with the extras on disc 2. Disc 3 is by far my favorite, but not flawless: The first match could maybe be kinda exclusive since it's from Fully Loaded 1999. In respects to the Hart family, WWE has yet not released this show on VHS or DVD as it is the very same show where Owen Hart died. I think that this is one of those very few things WWE has done right, but then again, that means that they shouldn't include this match on this feature either. Especially since this is one of those matches that took place AFTER the accident. Next match is the absolute best match of all three discs: Wrestlemania X-7. Houston, Texas (Mark Calaway's hometown). The opponent is Triple H. And what a hell of a match it is! This is also one of those matches he wins. The only down side about this match, is that WWE doesn't have the copyright to Limp Bizkit's "Rolin'" anymore (which was Undertaker's theme at the time), and edited in some other music instead. But I can look past that. Next match is Judgement Day 2002. Versus Hogan. Which makes it ANOTHER double-feature... Then there's the Hell In A Cell match versus Brock Lesnar. Now this is a really good match, with a lot of blood and guts and smash-mouth wrestling. Unfortunately, 'Taker loses. Too bad, because if he hadn't, this match would share the victory of best match on the feature with the WM X-7 match. Next; Vengeance 2003, versus John Cena. Fairly decent match, nothing more. Could have been taken out to make place for a better one. Then, there's the Buried Alive match with Vince McMahon at Survivor Series in 2003. This is a squash match! Undertaker totally destroys Vince, only to be screwed over at the end by... Kane! (What is it now, a quadric-feature?!?) Then, the last match of the disc; Kane at Wrestlemania XX. Decent match, and I'm not going to say that this match have no place here, but three matches and two interferences with Kane? Wasn't this suppose to be a tribute feature to Undertaker? The extras include some good interview pieces and promos, and a very good Smackdown match versus Kurt Angle. I like disc 3's extras.

Now, I've said which matches could be dropped from Tombstone; here's some matches I thought should have been there instead: 1. WWF Rampage 1991, versus The Ultimate Warrior. Not the best match, but one Warrior match couldn't hurt, could it? 2. Armageddon 2000, Six Man Hell In A Cell WWF Title match. It included all the great ones at the time, and really made impact. 'Taker threw Rikishi from the roof, remember? 3. Vengeance 2001, Hardcore Championship match versus Rob Van Dam. Nothing is better than seeing 'Taker go berserk. 4. WWE Title Ladder Match against Jeff Hardy on RAW in 2002. Not only did this match make it to nomination as RAW's Greatest Match, it's also (as far as I know) Undertaker's first and only Ladder Match ever. And then I haven't told how great it was yet.

In all, a great disappointment to me, and probably a lot of other Creatures of the Night. We were not given what was promised us.
