FOLLOWING THE BIG upset by the AFL NY Jets over the NFL Baltimore Colts the previous year, the Kansas City Chiefs continued building the AFL "streak", bringing it up to 2. This also evened the score at 2 & 2 for both leagues.

MUCH AS IN the previous Super Bowl, the contest was not a high scoring -affair. With the final score of KC 23 - MIN 7, it was obviously a contest which proved that Defense wins the games. Kansas City's tough and steady ground game and pinpoint precision passing game which moved the ball for the victors.

ON THE OTHER side of the ball, the Chiefs unleashed a defense on the Vikings with such a fury as to frustrate their moving the ball on land or in the air. The Chiefs' defensive unit performed in such a manner that wasn't seen until the Bears'"46 Defense" in 1985 and Super Bowl XX.

BUT THE ONE intangible that made the difference is that there were so many players still active with the Kansas City squad who played for Coach Hank Stram 3 years earlier vs. the Green Bay Packers in The World's Championship of American Football (Super Bowl I).

IT WAS THIS factor, combined with Hank Stram's famous loyalty to his players that enabled the Chief's to settle the score; both for the KC Team as well as for the American Football League.

NOTE: * This saying is attributed to either Confucius or to author Earl Der Biggers in one of his CHARLIE CHAN detective story books.
