A story set against the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the film is based upon the tragedy which occurred in Utah in 1857. A group of settlers, traveling on wagons, was murdered by the native Mormons. All together, about 140 souls of men, women and children, were taken. Amidst this, two young lovers-to-be, one a Mormon and the other one of the doomed settlers from Arkansas, develop a relationship in an atmosphere of suspicion and rancor. Written by
Whether or not you like the movie depends on the what kind of movies you like. For a movie set in this time period and with this story line, it was very well done. I really believe most bad reviews of this movie are based on a bias. I don't blame Mormons for feeling this way, but if you are a Mormon who takes their faith seriously there is little chance you will like this movie. Why? - Because their entire faith is based on their current leader doing no wrong (it REALLY IS - no lie - he is "led directly by God"). And this movie does not only imply a small fault or slip-up by Brigham Young, but rather a WHOPPER of a sin. So, Mormons simply cannot accept that, and that's understandable. Back to the movie itself: it was well done with really good acting, storyline, and with beautiful images of the west. If you like this TYPE of movie, then you will like THIS movie.
