Defeat is an orphan, 20 August 2007
10/10
Author: bard-32 from United States

I think I saw that one. I don't remember the Battle of Giron, a.k.a., the Bay of Pigs, because I was only two at the time. That said, the reason why it's called the Bay of Pigs is because the Cuban exiles who were landed in Cuba NEVER landed at Giron. They landed at the nearby Bay of Pigs. Colonel North knows what he's talking about. I don't pretend to know one-tenth of what he knows. The invasion failed because President Kennedy withdrew the promised air cover. Was it right? No, it wasn't. However, hindsight is 20/20, and saying that, maybe they should have kept their promise and sent in the air support. Would have made a difference? Maybe, maybe not. We don't know. Castro was, and still probably is, a bad man. If he's still alive, which is doubtful, then we'll have to consider the fact that he's dead and the Cuban government doesn't want to admit it. Then his successor, Hugo Chavez, will be the one who'll take over the roll of Public Enemy #1. As President Kennedy said in his speech after the failure of the Bay of Pigs. "Victory has a thousand fathers but defeat is an orphan."
