Did You Know?

In the beginning, the show was thought to be a flop and placed as a fill-in during August, summer recess time. However, already after the first episode the show turned out to be a great success with more than 3 million viewers. See more »

The events of cutting off electricity or desperately trying to get money for food and a place to live, which increase the tragedy, would actually not be possible in Germany. The social welfare, which everyone who has a German citizenship can obtain, covers all the basic needs, even including such things as a TV and Internet access. Also, after losing his job, Paul Gabriel would actually receive an unemployment fare for at least one year, covering up to 80% of his former salary, which would obviously be still enough to keep a decent life style. Decent German comedy
18 October 2006 | by (Germany) – See all my reviews

What happens when a wealthy family loses everything? They step down to live the "normal" life, move into a small apartment and struggle to earn money to pay for their living. This is a brilliant show for a German comedy, lacking the usual slapstick trash that we're sadly used to. Andrea Sawatzki, one of the most talented actresses around, brilliantly portrays the part of Adina, a woman who won't accept her social downfall and still wears her Gucci dress while crawling the waste can for bottles. If you live outside of Germany/Austria/Switzerland, you may not get the chance to check this one out, but it's definitely worth a try! Let's see if America picks up the concept...
