Viscarret interweaves dreamscapes and touches of surrealism into a touchingly funny script that is not without a degree of pathos. There are several distinctive shots that sear into the memory, not least the sidestreet views of our hero on his bicycle and an angelic Verónica Echegui dressing in the morning light- what a girl! The film is also rich in one-line gems which show the director's versatility as a writing talent.
