Kiefer Sutherland May Have TV’s Biggest New Show: Fall Tracking Report Predicts Hits and Flops

16 September 2016 10:34 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

TV vets Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Weatherly and Kevin James could have another smash series on their hands.

Sutherland’s new ABC drama “Designated Survivor,” Weatherly’s new CBS series “Bull” and James’ freshman comedy “Kevin Can Wait” (also for the Eye network) are among the shows testing highest among potential audiences, just days before next Monday’s launch of the 2016-2017 TV season.

Research firm Ipsos Connect has regularly polled an average of more than 2,000 TV viewers age 18-49 over the past three weeks, gauging their awareness of this fall’s new TV titles – and whether or not they intend to tune in. IndieWire obtained a copy of Ipsos’ TV Dailies report, which is organized by lead product manager Tom Kelly.

‘All Eyez on Me’ Trailer: Tupac Shakur Biopic Looks To Be This Year’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’

14 September 2016 6:42 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The life of rapper Tupac Shakur has come to the big screen before in the Oscar-nominated documentary “Tupac: Resurrection,” but like Biggie Smalls in “Notorious” and N.W.A. in last year’s breakout hit “Straight Outta Compton,” the rapper is finally getting the biopic treatment with the upcoming feature “All Eyez On Me.” A new trailer for the drama hit the web yesterday to mark the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s death, and it features a great ensemble charting the rapper/actor’s rags-to-riches rise and fall.

Newcomer Demetrius Shipp, Jr. steps into the lead role with uncanny resemblance as the film tracks Shakur’s rise to 1990s rap icon. Money, greedy producers and gang violence all pose threats on his way to the top, and one of the trailer’s most powerful moments comes from Tupac’s mother, »

'All Eyez' on this intense Tupac biopic trailer

13 September 2016 6:20 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. The trailer for All Eyes on Me is violent, raw, and Shakespearean. The quick cutting is rapid and builds to a crescendo. I'd say this trailer is Nsfw, so watch out. This film is going to be an exposed nerve, which is what Tupac was, so it may end up being appropriate tone for the kind of man he was.   For those of us not of age in the '90s, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls had a west coast vs, east coast, rapper vs. rapper rivalry that wasn't just a pop culture distraction. Relationships were ruined. Lives were lost. In order to get a complete picture of what happened between Tupac and Biggie, you need to know about both of their lives.  I'd be remiss if I didn't »

Watch Tupac Shakur in Violent New 'All Eyez on Me' Biopic Trailer

Tupac puts Dan Quayle on blast, talks loyalty with the Notorious B.I.G. and grapples with duty, temptation and violence. It's all in the the intense new trailer for All Eyez on Me, a biopic about the rapper who died 20 years ago today.

The first full clip opens with Pac (played by Demetrius Shipp, Jr.) unleashing a righteous and eerily prescient screed to an adoring crowd: "Police kill innocent black folk every day and Quayle's coming after me? But I'm used to people coming at me. This shit been happening my whole life. »

Johnny Depp's Tupac and Notorious Big thriller has the wrong main source

8 September 2016 8:25 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The theories of former Lapd detective Russell Poole have been called into question by more in-depth research, so why is his story being adapted?

News broke yesterday that Johnny Depp will play former Lapd detective Russell Poole in a film adaptation of the 2002 true-crime book LAbyrinth, which advanced Poole’s controversial theories about the still-unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious Big (Christopher Wallace).

This isn’t the first time author Randall Sullivan’s book has been tapped for the big screen. In 2003 Sylvester Stallone announced plans to star, write and direct a project based on LAbyrinth, but nothing came of it. So why the Depp project now? And who is Russell Poole?

‘The Sea of Trees’ Starring Matthew McConaughey Is A Theatrical Bomb – And Why That May Not Matter

4 September 2016 11:36 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Gus Van Sant is the Oscar-nominated, critically acclaimed director of “Milk” and “Good Will Hunting,” but his career also has seen a few misses — and none more so than “The Sea of Trees.” Released to derision at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and recently acquired by A24, the film stars Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts and made $2,894 in its first week at the box office.

Granted, that was on two screens. But by jumping from two screens to 101 in its second weekend, that total will likely rise to around $6,500. Or to look at it another way: By adding 99 screens, each should generate about $36 in the second weekend.

That’s a dreadful theatrical release by anyone’s standards, but this wasn’t a standard theatrical release; it’s closer to what retailers like to call a loss leader, a product that loses money because it brings people to the store. And in »

Why A24 Picked Up Gus Van Sant’s Critical Dud ‘The Sea of Trees’

26 August 2016 7:40 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Few films in recent history have gotten off to as rough a start as Gus Van Sant’s “The Sea of Trees.” The drama starring Matthew McConaughey and Naomi Watts was loudly booed following its premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it scored a 0.6 out of 4.0 on Screen’s festival jury rankings, the lowest score in 12 years. IndieWire’s chief film critic Eric Kohn called the movie a “stunning misfire” and Van Sant’s worst film.

Based on a spec script from Chris Sparling (“Buried”), the movie follows a suicidal widower (McConaughey) whose plan to end his life in the forest near Mount Fuji is derailed when he encounters a Japanese businessman lost in the same woods and close to death.

‘Sausage Party’: Seth Rogen Reveals What Had To Be Cut To Avoid Nc-17 Rating

9 August 2016 9:18 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Seth Rogen’s dark comedy “Sausage Party” hits theaters this weekend. The animated film tells the story of grocery store food finding out what happens to them in the real world where they are chopped up, boiled and cooked so they can be eaten by people. The film is rated R but it was first categorized as Nc-17 by the MPAA because of an eight-minute food orgy scene.

Rogen sat down with Howard Stern to discuss the film and what he had to cut to get the rating he wanted.

“There is a very sexually charged scene in the film, there is a pita bread with a scrotum,” he told Stern, adding that the lunch meat were involved in an orgy. “We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, ‘Ok, these are like our sacrificial lambs.’”
