Goofs

In the series, only John Adams' son John Quincy accompanies him to Europe. In reality, Adams made two trips to Europe before the war ended. John Quincy accompanied Adams on the first trip. On the second trip, Adams' two older sons, John Quincy and Charles (who was shown in the film as being angry at his father for not allowing him to join), accompanied him, along with a secretary and personal servant. John Adams: Mr. Duane well knows that reconciliation would be as agreeable to my inclinations, and as advantageous to my interests as to any man's! But, I see no prospect for it, no probability, no possibility! And I cannot abide the hypocritical heart that pretends to expect peace when in truth it does not.
James Duane: This congress has no more right to pass such a resolution than parliament has! We must beware of overreaching!

Magnificent work from HBO
16 March 2008 | by See all my reviews

The first two episodes of this mini series have captivated me like very few things have. It is interesting to see a detailed look at the foundation of this great nation come to life instead of merely being read on page.

The cast is stellar. Giamatti is a great actor and he brings John Adams to life. Wilkinson as Benjamin Franklin is one of the highlights. The realism of the time frame is brought to life like few movies have done; accuracy in costumes, to architecture, and locational shots.

This is a truly moving piece, and a must watch for fans of history, and those with a appreciation of great cinema regardless.
