Nashville native's film receives rave reviews
12 May 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

A Nashville native and inspiring actress decided to "Flip the Script" on her career. Tiayoka McMillian is now a rising film writer and producer. Her movie, "Flip the Script" is getting two thumbs up at film festivals from Los Angeles to Canada. The film stars actress Robin Givens, the ex-wife of Heavy Weight boxing champion Mike Tyson, and Miguel Nunez, Junior who has many movies to his credit including an appearance Lethal Weapon 3 and a lead role in the movie "Juwanna Mann." People lined up early at Regal Hollywood 27 at the 100 Oaks Mall in Nashville for a special screening of the movie, "Flip the Script." This romantic comedy is about two high school loves who reconnect after the untimely death of a friend. It was written and produced by Nashville native and Tennessee State University graduate, Tiayoka McMillian. "Four years ago I wrote the script and took it to Sundance and nothing became of it said," said Tiayoka. The low budget, independent film was shot on location in Los Angeles in only 11 days. The movie may not have happened if it wasn't for McMillian's parents. McMillian said she thought she could make the film for $8,000. She said it ended up being much more than that and her parents helped finance the difference. One of the movie's co-stars, actor Mel Jackson was also in Nashville for the screening. He plays lawyer, Bruce in the movie. Jackson is no stranger to the big screen, with movies to his credit, like "The Little Richard Story", "The Temptations and Soul Food". Jackson encourages aspiring film writers, producers and actors not to give up on their dreams. Tiayoka McMillian herself makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the movie. Although "Flip the Script" didn't make to the big screen; it has received rave reviews at film festivals all over the country.
