Zelda Rubinstein, The Underwear Bomb And James Cameron In Today's Twitter-Wood

31 December 2009 4:14 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

News that "Poltergeist" actress Zelda Rubinstein has been taken off of life support didn't go unnoticed by horror movie fans in the Twitter-Wood community this week. The sad revelation caught the attention of both Richard Kelly and Jeff Katz (on his birthday, nonetheless), and I definitely echo those sentiments to her family.

In other posts, attempted underwear bomb from last week is still a trending topic among tweeters. Kevin Nealon was among those contemplating the ongoing investigation yesterday. Catch those thoughts after the jump along with Brian Lynch on Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner, Christina Applegate and Emmy Rossum on James Cameron's work in "Avatar" and more in the Twitter-Wood report for December 30, 2009.

Susan Sarandon And Tim Robbins' Split, 'Crazy Heart' And Stray Peacocks In Today's Twitter-Wood

23 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Jeff Bridges' performance in "Crazy Heart" was good enough for the Golden Globes, and it was good enough for Rob Zombie as well, judging by his tweets. Kevin Smith, meanwhile, had a positively-used expletive to describe his own experience watching Edgar Wright's unreleased "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Less giddy was producer Jeff Katz, who used a sports metaphor to express his reaction to news that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split. I'll let you parse and interpret that one, as his references to Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno went a little over my head. You can do so after the jump where you will also learn about Ice-t's recent "Modern Warfare 2" accomplishments, when Emmy Rossum will begin taking trapeze lessons and who found a stray peacock in their back yard. It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood report for December 23, 2009.

New Hit-Girl Red Band Trailer For Kick-Ass

21 December 2009 6:25 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I guess this trailer will just speak for itself - the latest clip promoting next year's Kick-Ass, the story of a teenager who gets in over his head when he decides to become a super hero, has been getting nothing but rave reviews from those that have seen it. It reminds me a bit of Shoot 'Em Up from a couple of years ago. If it's anything like that movie, I know I'll like it. The clip is all Hit-Girl, showing off her deadly moves with a sword gun and whatever else is lying around. The clip is bloody, violent and rated 'R', which means if you're under 17 you should make sure your parents aren't around before watching it. A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings Kick-ass to the big screen. Kick-ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to »

The World Cup, Umaga And 'New Moon' Nevernudes In Today's Twitter-Wood

4 December 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Professional wrestling fans of Twitter-Wood turned out today with good vibes for former WWE star Umaga, who was reported to be in serious condition for unknown reasons at a Houston hospital today. Jeff Katz was among them, and I echo his sentiments.

Elsewhere in the Twitterverse, Edgar Wright finished up his director's cut of "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." Jason Reitman thanked him for not competing with "Up in the Air," and writer Bryan Lee O'Malley congratulated him on the milestone. Director Kyle Newman was somewhat less congratulatory, meanwhile, in his tweet-outs to England looking ahead to the World Cup. Check out those tweets after the jump along with Kat Dennings' nevernude diagnosis of the "New Moon" werewolves, an "Eclipse" actor hanging out with David Caruso and much more in the Twitter-Wood report for December 4, 2009.

Producers Play With "Jimi Hendrix"...

4 December 2009 2:44 PM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Two upcoming features, based on rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix are in the works, including screenwriter Max Borenstein's take for Legendary Pictures, hoping for authorization from the Hendrix Estate.

In addition, producers Don "Shoot 'Em Up" Murphy and Carol Lewis are developing a 'fictional' account of what happened during Jimi Hendrix' 'lost weekend', when his manager orchestrated a hoax kidnapping.

The 2000 TV Movie "Hendrix", shot by director Leon Ichaso in Toronto was nominated for a primetime Emmy, starring Wood Harris, Billy Zane and Vivica A. Fox. The film chronicled Hendrix' early career, focusing on his move from the Us to England becoming friends with producer 'Chas Chandler' who teamed him up with bandmates Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding to form the Experience.

Sneak Peek's Michael Stevens had the opportunity of playing 'Jimi's Roadie' in the film, as a member of the band's entourage.

Jimi Hendrix On The Slide

3 December 2009 11:01 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Forty years on from his seminal, star-spangled appearance at Woodstock, there are now two Jimi Hendrix movies in the pipeline. As previously reported, Max Borenstein is writing a script  for a biopic that Legendary Pictures hope will get the stamp or approval from the Hendrix estate. And this morning it emerges that Angry Films (the company behind Shoot 'em Up) is preparing Slide: a fictionalised account of what happened during Hendrix's 'lost weekend'.Legend has it that in September 1969, Hendrix was the subject of a hoax kidnapping, orchestrated by his manager. The fictionalised road movie however, sees Jimi accidentally picked up by two mobsters on the run from the mob-boss they've cheated. There's no indication yet of Slide's tone or direction, so we'd hesitate to say "with hilarious consequences". Is this a comedy or a drama? The word THR uses is "quirky".Hendrix's life was mad enough that it would »

Ken Ober, The 'New Moon' Red Carpet And Neil Patrick Harris In Today's Twitter-Wood

17 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Last night got busy in Twitter-Wood on a few fronts. Former "Remote Control" host Ken Ober's passing surprised a number of tweeters, including Brian Posehn and Jeff Katz, who both noted his loss.

L.A.'s Westwood village theatre, meanwhile, was epicenter for all of the "Twilight" Twitterverse during the "New Moon" premiere. BooBoo Stewart posted a pic from the red carpet, Rachelle Lefevre posted her reasons for missing the event, Brett Ratner was in attendance and Kevin Smith made a date out of the night with his daughter. You can check out what they had to say after the jump along with Twitter Pic pick that I selected more for its significance than its shock value, as Neil Patrick Harris officially moved into the Twitter-Wood neighborhood. It's all in the report for November 17, 2009.

Elfman Replaced On "The Wolfman"

14 November 2009 11:49 AM, PST | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

Famed "Batman", "Spider-man", "Men In Black" and "Wanted" composer Danny Elfman has been given the boot from the upcoming big budget "The Wolfman" remake according to Cinemusic.net and The Playlist. What's strange is Elfman had apparently already written an entire score for the new horror movie said to be similar to Wojciech Kilar's haunting work in "Bram Stocker's Dracula", however the film's constantly shifting release dates mean that Elfman simply doesn't have the time to stay with the project and finish his work. Instead, Paul Haslinger ("Underworld", "Shoot 'Em Up") has been brought onboard to do the film's soundtrack and no doubt give it a more grungy, rock-based sound. In a strange bit of similitude, Haslinger was a member of Tangerine Dream - the influential 80's electronic »

Veteran's Day, 'Precious' And 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' In Today's Twitter-Wood

11 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Veteran's Day brought no shortage of veteran appreciation today in Twitter-Wood, prompting thanks and memories from across the board, as well as a personal note from "Twilight" actor Gil Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Jason Schwartzman's on his way to the NYC debut of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," which as a Wes Anderson follower, I am anxious to see myself this weekend. Another new release, "Precious," really got a hold of Tyrese Gibson, who said the film's been keeping him awake. Check out their thoughts along with pictures from Peter Facinelli and John Stamos and a Henry Winkler autograph to be jealous of after the jump. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 11, 2009.

Owen: 'I respond to material instantly'

24 October 2009 12:46 PM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Clive Owen has reportedly claimed that he "instinctively" knows if he wants to work on a film. The 45-year-old actor, who recently revealed that he struggles to balance work and family, has said that he only agrees to work on a project if he's drawn to it. Owen told Bang Showbiz: "I don't set out to do something different each time I make a movie. I think at the end of the day, a career is made up of all the individual choices that I've made. Three More Actors Join Political Drama The Whistleblower

21 October 2009 5:28 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

At the risk of sounding uneducated, I'll admit only within the past couple years did I become aware of the term "whistleblower" as well as the sort of subgenre in drama focusing on the brave characters who dare to take down powerful people and organizations. Variety reports that Monica Belluci (Shoot 'Em Up), David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Vanessa Redgrave (Venus) are joining Rachel Weisz (The Brothers Bloom) in the true story of a policewoman who uncovers an international scandal in a film called, aptly, The Whistleblower. The film is a Canadian-German co-production in partnership with Barry Films. The film, which begins shooting in Romania next week directed by Larysa Kondracki, highlights a scandal involving both American contractors and the United Nations in postwar Bosnia. While Weisz is playing the title character Kathryn Bolkovac, a U.N. peacekeeper whom co-writers Ellis Kirwan and Larysa Kondracki (making her directorial debut »

Paul Giamatti on the Lost, Cold-Blooded Joys of Shoot 'Em Up

14 October 2009 7:50 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Exhausted the classic canon? Fed up with the current cinema of remakes, reboots and reimaginings? This week The Cold Case talks to Paul Giamatti, exhuming a recent, underappreciated gem by one of America's most charismatic acting talents.

Finding unexpected fame as a comic-book artist, railing against the evils of merlot, tangling with a backyard mermaid or trying to retrieve his soul from Russian gangsters: Paul Giamatti has blessed a disparate bunch of movies with his human hurrumph persona. But what unites these roles (and many of his others) is that familiar beaten-down frustration. Which is why it was such fun to see him do a 180-degree turn to play a snarlingly confident and utterly cold-blooded villain 2007's Shoot 'Em Up. »

The softer side of Clive Owen: Can you dig it?

26 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Ever since I saw Croupier while visiting London with my folks years ago, Clive Owen has been one of my very favorite actors. No one does that British brooding thing quite like he does (see: Gosford Park, CloserInside Man), and when he's bad-ass (i.e. King Arthur, Children of Men, Shoot 'Em Up), he's thrilling. But in his latest movie The Boys Are Back (directed by Shine's Scott Hicks), Owen sheds that stoic persona to play Joe Warr, a father of two sons who, following the death of his second wife, is faced with raising both of them on his own. »

Clive Owen goes against type in 'The Boys Are Back'

24 September 2009 5:12 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Hollywood has found Clive Owen's niche.  It's tough-minded thrillers such as "Sin City," "The International" and "Shoot 'em Up" and upscale dramas such as "Duplicty" and "Closer."  He hasn't broken into comedy yet (except for a few cameos here and there), but with his latest release, "The Boys Are Back," he's definitely showing a more emotional side.Based on the Simon Carr non-fiction novel of the same name, "Boys" centers on a British sportswriter living in Australia who is struggling with raising his two boys after the unexpected passing of his second wife. Fame, Rage and Capitalism

This week, contrasting approaches to filmmaking bring about balance and equilibrium. Experimentalism (Sally Potter's "Rage" and Michael Almereyda's "Paradise") collides head on with tried and tested formulas (the Clive Owen starrer "The Boys Are Back" and a remake of "Fame").

Paul Giamatti Gets Ironclad

18 September 2009 12:33 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Production begins next month on the medieval actionfest Ironclad, and Variety are reporting that Paul Giamatti has just signed on to play the measly, weasely, blabberin', jabberin', wheelin', dealin' King John. Last we heard, the cast already includes Robert Carlyle, Bob Hoskins, William Moseley, Pete Postlethwaite, Richard Attenborough and star-of-the-show James Purefoy. Verily tis the Dirty Dozen of knights-in-armour films.Ironclad is the story of a group of Templar Knights defending Rochester Castle against John, who you'll recall was proxy king while his brother Richard was off on the Crusades.Giamatti's villainy has been proven before in Shoot 'em Up, so the potential mix of that and some Harvey Pekar shmo-ness as, incredible as he is inept, he sits alone on his giant throne pretending he's the king, has us rubbing our hands with anticipatory glee.Strange how these things come in pairs, isn't it? Disney Buys Marvel, DJ Am Remembered And A 'Twilight' Actor Eats A Horse In Today's Twitter-Wood

31 August 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Disney surprised a lot of tweeters this morning when the company announced its acquisition of Spider-Man and X-Men publishers Marvel Entertainment. Kevin Smith, Jeff Katz, Dax Shepard, and many others chimed in with thoughts on the purchase.

Elsewhere, the tweets are still trickling in from those remembering DJ Am, including renowned Vegas party-goer Paris Hilton. The list of tweets today was actually fairly thick to sort through, with all of these reactions, a photograph of a "Twilight" star biting into a horse and Bob Saget's response to a fan's request for him to tell the "Aristocrats" joke on Twitter.
