DVD Release Date: Jan. 31, 2012

Price: DVD $24.98

Studio: Entertainment One

Savannah Stehlin is Spork.

Written and directed by debuting feature filmmaker J.B. Ghuman Jr., the 2010 independent musical comedy movie Spork is intriguingly hyped as “Glee Meets Napoleon Dynamite.” Hmmmm….

The coming-of-age film spins the tale of a frizzy-haired, pink-cheeked outcast named Spork (Savannah Stehlin, TV’s Sleeper Cell) who is trying to navigate her way through the hell that is junior high. When a school dance show provides an opportunity for Spork to show up a mean-girls gang, her trailer-park neighbor Tootsie Roll (Sydney Park) steps up to coach her with some “booty-poppin’” moves. With a little positive thinking and a lot of practice, Spork finds herself on the way to both standing out and fitting in.

Featuring a bunch of colorful, foul-mouthed musical numbers and a vintage 1990s soundtrack (which includes Jj Fad’s “SuperSonic” and 2-Live Crew’s “Get »

Showtime A scene from “Homeland.”

Homeland,” the new thriller series from Showtime, tells the story of an American soldier (played by Damian Lewis) who may or may not have been turned into a terrorist  spy, and a CIA operations officer, played by Claire Danes, who decides that he may be a threat.

Similar plot themes have popped up in thrillers in the past, in movies such as “The Manchurian Candidate,” for example. And if you haven’t seen the classic, »

NBC Buys Cyrus Voris/Ethan Reiff Shanghai Cop Drama, Comedy From ‘Sitter’ Scribes

Exclusive: NBC is China-bound. The network has bought a cop drama project set in Shanghai from writers Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff. The project is about a pair of fugitive recovery agents working in China’s (and the world’s) largest city, population 23 million. It stems from a blind script deal Voris and Reiff had at NBC and will be produced by Universal TV. Voris and Reiff had been thinking about doing a cop show set in China for a while, and separately new NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke had been looking to do a show set in the Asian country for some time, originally as top development executive at 20th TV. Updated Voris and Reiff have an extensive background and knowledge of China working on Chinese-themed projects, including co-writing the story for DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda, which was set in old China. Penny has found a new constant.

Lost fan fave Sonya Walger has landed a role in USA Network’s upcoming buddy cop drama, Common Law. The actress — who most recently co-starred on ABC’s short-lived FlashForward — will play Dr. Emma Ryan, “a smart, attractive psychiatrist with a keen sense of humor,” EW.com reports.

Common Law stars Warren Kole (The Chicago Code) and Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell) as constantly-quarreling detectives forced into couples therapy — hence Walger’s shrink.

'Underworld: Awakening' Trailer: A Whole New Supernatural World

18 August 2011 1:33 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The world has changed since Kate Beckinsale last starred in an "Underworld" flick, and now it's time for her to catch up with "Underworld: Awakening."

It may have only been five years since "Underworld: Evolution" hit theaters, but on the big screen 12 years have passed. The newly released trailer for "Underworld: Awakening" says that Selene has been held captive for more than a decade, though she has now escaped to wreak havoc on the world. The problem is that, in this world, humans hunt vampires and lycans, making this a "new war" as she says.

But something else has been released as well, adding an extra layer to the plot. And, as Selene asks, where is her former flame Michael?

Unfortunately Scott Speedman, who played Michael Corvin in the first two "Underworld" films, isn't in "Awakening," but I have a gut feeling that he is related to the creature unleashed in some way. »

Covert Affairs: 8 Pieces Of Sexy Season 2 Intel

USA Network’s Covert Affairs is on a not-so-top-secret mission to be bigger, better and, yes, sexier in its second season (premiering Tuesday at 10/9c).

When last we tuned into the spy-drama, CIA plebe Annie Walker (played by Piper Perabo) had proved her ass-kicking, multilingual mettle as well as divined that the reason for her surge up the Agency ladder was because of her ties to ex-boyfriend/rogue agent Ben Mercer (Eion Bailey). With support from her super-techy (and sightless) handler, Auggie (Christopher Gorham), and CIA officer Jai Wilcox (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Annie eventually made contact with Awol Ben, only to »

Are 'Downton Abbey' and 'Luther' in the right Emmys race? [Poll]

3 June 2011 5:11 AM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

In 2005, a shortened first season of USA's “The 4400” was entered into the longform categories at the Emmys and earned a nomination for Best Miniseries; it lost to "The Lost Prince." The next year, FX's “Thief” -- a series with seven episodes that was cancelled due to low ratings -- did the same and star Andre Braugher won Best TV Movie/Mini Actor. Showtime's “Sleeper Cell,” was also nominated for Best Miniseries losing to "Elizabeth I." In 2007, the TV academy amended its rules to exclude such programs from the movie/mini races dictating that, “a limited-run series with a 'created by' credit [as opposed to just a 'written by' credit] cannot enter as a miniseries.” In addition, it ruled that “a miniseries is based on a single theme or story line, which is resolved within the piece.” These changes distinguished complete, self-contained stories like 2008 champ “John Ad »

Showtime Is Pulling Out of Netflix

24 March 2011 1:50 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sorry Netflix fans, CBS Corp.'s Showtime unit said it is planning to remove some of the premium cable network's shows from Netflix Inc.'s streaming video service, days after the online video distributor announced its plans to offer its own original programming.

Showtime spokeswoman Johanna Fuentes confirmed the plug will be pulled when the current distribution deal expires this summer. Netflix subscribers have limited time to watch old episodes of shows such as Dexter and Californication on the streaming service.

"We're perplexed by this," said Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey. "We have great Showtime shows available on our service, and we expect to continue with those shows. We have a very good relationship with CBS and all its channels."

Netflix will still be able to offer episodes from Showtime series that have ended their run on the network, such as The Tudors and Sleeper Cell. »

Ten Surprising Gay Sex Scenes

Hollywood producers and directors have a long tradition of shying away from gay male sex scenes – even as they labor valiantly to insert lesbian sex in places in the most ridiculous of places. Nina had lesbian sex in Black Swan to show how obsessed she was with herself? Really, Darren Aronofsky? Couldn’t you just come out and say, “This is how we got financing. A movie about ballet? I mean, are you kidding? Of course, we had to do this!”

But every now and then, a gay character does manage to see some action on TV or in the movies, as we’ve documented before in our articles Gay Sex Scenes That Made Movie History and TV's Most Influential Gay Sex Scenes – and sometimes it even gets surprisingly steamy!
