The Double
seanoverbeeke31 October 2005
This is by far one of the best short films EVER made. The Double rocked my world at the Angelus Film Festival and made me think about film-making in a whole new light. Rani Demuth should be on everyone's "to watch for list" of up and coming talent machine directors. Her unique style and sensibility make her one of the best ever to exist in the history of motion picture makers. Without out films like The Double we are all lost. It is an emotional roller-coaster, literally, from start to finish that leaves the audience both highly satisfied and entertained. I for one will be first in line at my local movie theater when her first feature explodes at the box office.

Above and way beyond my humble expectations...

Rani DeMuth is a brilliant writer /director. I have had the privilege of seeing this woman come from her film beginnings, and she has simply snowballed with this well done short. I can only expect more of her light to shine on the screens. In all honesty, the film's beginnings threw me a little off, the 80's flair music, with short cut shots of a man half dressed working out to swimming to shower to working out to... As the movie progressed it proved to be an interesting debut to a film that may have seemed to be going in a "hollywood" way, and takes the audience skillfully into her blueprint plan of deep metaphysical explanation...in such a way that it doesn't alienate the metaphysically challenged. Bravo!

I am thrilled that a young filmmaker has arrived who obviously has a wonderful mind and brilliant imaginative voice. Bravo! Every aspect of this film is excellent. The dialog is so innovative; I watched the movie three times in a row and still will see it again. The acting is terrific. This is my favorite movie for Eric Roberts. He is always good, but in this movie he is the best. My favorite scene is the one where he and Shannon Sossomon (who is also her best) are trying to do the exercise to gain the talent for astral projection. The writing is stunning. Finally there is a writer/director with a profound mind and something new to say. Also the production design is excellent. Every scene is beautiful. Really, I can't say enough about Rani DeMuth. I hope to see a feature from her before too long.
