Plot:

During the reign of the Vikings, Kainan, a man from a far-off world, crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the Moorwen. Though both man and monster are seeking revenge for violence committed against them, Kainan leads the alliance to kill the Moorwen by fusing his advanced technology with the Viking's Iron Age weaponry.

The language spoken by Kainan and his computer in the beginning of the movie is actually Icelandic as it was pronounced in the 12th century. The dialog between him and the computer is as follows: Kainan asks: "Staður" (=location). Computer responds: "Stadhur: Noreg, taeknistig: Jarnold" which means "Location: Norway, Technology: Iron age". Kainan asks: "Leita skips" (Vessel search). Computer responds: "Leita....engin skip fundust" which means "Searching - no ships found". Kainan says: "Senda merki" (which actually means "send signal" but is translated as "language"). Computer responds: "saeki talmal: norrænu" which means "Loading dialect: Norse". When Kainan has buried his friend he says: "Far vel, herra" which is subtitled as "Sleep well, sir" but more correct would be "Fare well, sir".

Goofs:

Anachronisms: While in the caves an area of partly exposed lava and steam is encountered. There has been no volcanic activity in mainland Norway for at least a few thousand years.

B+ movie

I was very skeptical before watching this film. Even if it got John Hurt and Ron Perlman in it, I just couldn't believe the SciFi/Norse legend combination would work. My instinct told me that this was going to be another of those horrible B-movies with a stupid story, sub-average effects and mediocre acting at best. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. Not that it is a masterpiece. The background story could have been a tad bit more elaborate, the plot more original and the final outcome a little bit less predictable, but all in all one has to acknowledge the decent effort to make this movie convincing and suspenseful. The end result is a solid piece of entertainment, with ample effects, directing I'd call 'by the book', workmanlike acting and a few kicks and thrills along the way. So if you happen to like action movies and don't ask for too much depth in the story, this will provide you with a 90 minutes amusement worth the time.
