A 30-minute, all greenscreen, all motion collage, dark fairy tale like nothing you've seen before. Elise is on a routine deer hunt in the forest with her father and six brothers when she is confronted by a beautiful lady in white, the Swan Witch. Thus begins the undoing of all Elise has known. Her father is tragically killed trying to protect his family from this mysterious woman, who later returns, transforms her brothers into swans and steals them away. She leaves Elise with the knowledge, however, that she is the boys' mother. Utterly alone, Elise decides to take action, buries her father, and sets out on the road. She encounters her friend Sebastian and his father Marion who take her to a medicine woman named Baba. Here Elise learns what she must do to rescue her brothers - either kill the Swan Witch to break the spell or eat from a poisonous apple, which will grant her any wish. Marion agrees to take her to the witch, only to leave Sebastian and Elise on the road soon after, ... Written by dennitzio

This is the first film to mix in the new sound format created by the inventor of THX, Tomlinson Holman. Called "10.2" ("twice as good as 5.1") it actually uses up to 14 channels of sound to create a field of surround sound that makes 5.1 sound "as flat as mono". See more »

a bold new look at film-making
20 June 2007 | by See all my reviews

although the mythical story of the fated family unfolds at a slower pace than i may have liked, i cannot deny that this is is a bold new look at film-making.

the pitfalls of acting against a green screen and employing puppets can often wither a cast's ability to "be in the same movie," but the cohesiveness of the storytelling in SEVEN SWANS, and the depth of the performances therein, speak of a solid vision on the part of the creative team.

the juxtaposed images lend themselves to the story at hand, and allowed a sense of the director's eye to be present in a new way... a step beyond merely "setting up the shot."

i will look forward eagerly to their next endeavor!
