Scream Factory Hopes You’ll Invite The Vagrant over to Watch The Horror Show

11 November 2012 2:00 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Another Friday has passed and that means two titles never before released on DVD have been announced by the Scream Factory. You may not remember The Vagrant but odds are you remember The Horror Show and have been wondering if it would ever see the light of day again.

The big title of this week’s Scream Factory announcement is unquestionably The Horror Show, or as it is known in some foreign circles, House III. I never understood how anyone came to the conclusion that film could be released as a third installment of the House franchise, but then I also have never understood how a movie about killer radioactive tree roots could be marketed as Troll 3.

In much the same way Hollywood gave us dueling volcano films (Volcano and Dante’s Peak) and dueling celestial doomsday flicks (Armageddon and Deep Impact), 1989 saw the release of dueling fright flicks about »

Rest In Peace Director James Isaac

7 May 2012 1:20 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

It is with tremendous sadness that we’ve just learned about the passing of director James Isaac; the helmer of Jason X, The Horror Show, Skinwalkers and most recently Pig Hunt. He was 51 years old.

Isaac got his start primarily in the special effects world and worked on several David Cronenberg productions including The Fly, Naked Lunch and eXistenZ. In turn Cronenberg popped up in a cameo for Isaac’s directorial debut Jason X as Dr. Wimmer in the opening scene.

The entire Icons crew has very fond memories of seeing Jason X together, and I was fortunate enough to meet Isaac at a Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors show where we got to talk with the very gracious and appreciative filmmaker about Jason X. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

Rest in Peace: Director James Isaac

7 May 2012 12:15 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The horror genre has lost another director at way too young an age. The name James Isaac may not jump immediately out at you, but the man has delivered some of the most fun and obscure flicks of our generation.

Isaac has passed away at the age of just 51 due to a rare form of blood cancer. His work included The Horror Show, Jason X, Skinwalkers and Pig Hunt. Before taking the director's chair, he also had an incredible FX career, working on titles like Return of the Jedi, Gremlins, The Fly and House II: The Second Story.

The news was broken today on Twitter from Jason X scribe Todd Farmer, who wrote: "Rip Jimmy Isaac. A wonderful man, husband and father. I never tear up. I thought."

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to extend our deepest of condolences to Isaac's friends, family, and constituents. »

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Jim Isaac. He directed Jason X, The Horror Show Aka House 3, Pig Hunt, and Skin Walkers. I read about his passing via Todd Farmer's Twitter account. As you know, Todd worked with Jim on Jason X. Our con… »

Writer James DeMonaco is stepping behind the camera for the second time with the science fiction thriller Vigilandia, which begins shooting on February 13th. Universal Pictures is teaming with Platinum Dunes, Why Not Productions, and Blumhouse Productions on the low budget project that just scored a lead in Ethan Hawke.

Hawke is no stranger to fantasy film, of course, having appeared in Explorers (1985), Gattaca (1997), and concurrently with Vigilandia, Len Wiseman’s Total Recall redux. DeMonaco last directed Little New York in 2009, and penned Skinwalkers (2006), Assault On Precinct 13 (2005, also starring Hawke), The Negotiator (1998), and Jack (1996).
