A decade after the series premiered in 2005. A prequel series entitled "Westside" premiered on 31st May 2015 and the series takes place in the 1970s and follows young Ted West and his wife Rita. Young Ted West is played by David de Lautour and Rita Wilson is played by Antonia Prebble, whom plays Loretta West. Antonia Prebble cast as her own grandmother was done to connect both series.

Police vehicles used within the show are outdated versions of current NZ Police vehicles. The EL Ford Falcon was used by the NZ Police from 1998-2001 and phased out by early 2002.

After leaving the series, Grant Bowler would go on to star in the science fiction series "Defiance" opposite Jaime Murray. Jaime Murray had starred in the 6 part mini-series "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" which was filmed in New Zealand.

ITV produced a UK remake "Honest" which ran for a single season and there was an US remake "Scoundrels" which was discontinued after 8 episodes.

If there had been a 7th season in 2011. Series 7 would had seen the demise of Ted West (Frank Whitten had passed away in 2011) and the character of Ted West would likely to had been written out. Elena would fall pregnant with Van's baby and Cheryl would have a new boyfriend, following Pascal and Judd's betrayal.

A spin-off series centering around Munter and his wife Kasey was never considered by Rachel Lang and James Griffin. The spin-off series would had a Kiwi remake of The Green Green Grass (2005) which was a spin-off of Only Fools and Horses (1981).
