Symbolism of the names?

The phoenix is a mythical bird which, when death is near, builds a bonfire in which it dies, only to be reborn from the flames and is therefore symbolic of destruction and recreation. The Griffin, according to J.E.Cirlot, is a fabulous animal "always to be found as the guardian of the roads to salvation."
