How I Met Your Mother to Ring in 2012 with Slaps, Puzzles

30 December 2011 4:23 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

How I Met Your Mother rings in the new year on Monday with its first new episode of 2012.

Titled "Tailgate," the half hour will center around Marshall returning to his father's grave in order to keep up a tradition; Robin being forced to fill in for a drunk news anchor; Ted and Barney running into problems when they open up a new bar in the former's apartment; and, oh, Barney getting slapped by three women.

Check out the official CBS promo now and also prepare for the show's 150th episode. It airs on January 16.

How I Met Your Mother 150 tease

How I Met Your Mother 150 tease

It doesn’t seem like that long ago that How I Met Your Mother reached its 100th episode, but already the long running series has amassed another 50 and will soon celebrate with its landmark 150th episode in the next few weeks. On January 16, “46 Minutes” will air and I would like to assume the show will do something to mark the occasion, but if we were to take anything from these lackluster promo images then I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

The images come from TVLine, and as they astutely point out the images show the gang hanging out in their usual place: MacLaren’s Pub. That’s hardly exciting, but knowing Himym, they could take a standard setting like MacLaren’s and turn it into a wild ride. Still, I said don’t get your hopes up and I meant it and here »

The Most Pirated Films Of 2011

29 December 2011 4:30 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The end of year is always a time for list articles on film sites. Some offer practical and interesting analysis like 'best film' lists. Most however are quickly pulled together inane padding designed to keep the 'torch lights burning' as there's really no news to report over the next fortnight.

So here's another for that pile, a list that Hollywood wishes didn't exist - the most pirated movies of the year list. TorrentFreak has released its top ten most downloaded movies worldwide of 2011 with "Fast Five" winning the pack.

Approximately 9.26 million copies of the film were downloaded over the year. Not far behind in second and third were "The Hangover Part II" and "Thor" with 8.84 million and 8.33 million respectively. All kicked off the Summer film season and so all have been around longer which explains their higher download count. Here's the full list:

'How I Met Your Mother' 150th episode: The gang's all here...and so is Kevin -- Photos

28 December 2011 4:15 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

There aren’t many secrets revealed in the promo photos for How I Met Your Mother’s landmark 150th episode — unless you count an appearance from Kevin (Kal Penn) a secret. In which case, well, surprise!

The good news is that if history proves true, these wonderfully vague promo photos means we’re in for a doozy of an episode. Here’s what we do know! (Mild spoilers ahead)

This is the episode where Marshall and Lily officially move to the suburbs. There’s an appearance from Lily’s dad (who refuses to move out of their house). And the gang visits a strip club. »

Who was 2011's worst-dressed TV character?

28 December 2011 2:30 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Let’s face it: Not everyone on TV can be Victoria Grayson (Madeline Stowe), whose immaculate gown collection on Revenge makes her look like she’s stepped out of a magical silk sea that changes jewel tones at her every whim and envelops her in liquid wealth for every occasion — “breakfast,” for example. Nope, sometimes people on TV just look like crap. I’ve started a list of 2011′s Worst-Dressed TV People below. But it will likely seem as incomplete as Kurt’s ridiculous one-sleeved cowl-neck sweater on Glee, so please add your own suggestions in the comments!

Most (and least) watched shows of fall -- Updated

27 December 2011 1:30 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Now that we’re in rerun hell, it’s high time to take stock of what we liked (and loathed) from September to December. Below is a list of every network show and how many viewers each one averaged.

While these numbers aren’t a key piece of the puzzle for the broadcast nets when they are setting ad rates and deciding whether to renew a series, they definitely help to tell a story of a program’s true popularity.*

1. NCIS (CBS, 21.4 million)

2. Sunday NFL Football (NBC, 19.9)

3. Two and a Half Men (CBS, 18.9)

TV ratings: 'Who's Still Standing' improves for NBC, but CBS reruns lead Monday

Fast national ratings for Monday, Dec. 26, 2011

The day after Christmas brought NBC a bigger audience for the game show "Who's Still Standing?," although its adults 18-49 numbers are still fairly modest. CBS, however, led the broadcast networks on the night with a slate of repeats.

The Eye averaged 6.6 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/7 share in households in primetime, topping NBC's 5 million viewers and 2.9/5. ABC (3.8 million, 2.3/4) came in third. (Numbers for ABC and NBC may change some as affiliates in Atlanta and New Orleans, respectively, carried the "Monday Night Football" telecast.) Fox (2.9 million, 1.8/3) took fourth, and The CW trailed with 741,000 viewers and a 0.5/1.

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 1.9 rating. NBC (1.4) was the only other net to break the 1.0 mark; ABC (0.9), Fox (0.8) and The CW (0.3) all fell below the line.

Monday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

NBC: "Who's Still Standing?" (6.9 million viewers, 4.0/7 households)

CBS: "How I Met Your Mother" rerun (5.9 million, »

Which 2011 TV episodes are still on your DVR?

27 December 2011 7:30 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

If you have a DVR, odds are you know the pain of returning from a vacation and discovering that it didn’t have enough space to record all your shows (especially if you tape HD channels, which take up more room). Once you’ve been burned, you become a lot more selective with the episodes you save after watching them.

So, which previously viewed 2011 episodes made your cut? I’m still holding on to Justified’s May season 2 finale “Bloody Harlan.” (I’ve also still got its June 2010 season 1 finale “Bulletville” saved, incidentally.) In addition, I haven’t yet been »

The Avengers will be post-converted to 3D (and why it could actually work)

22 December 2011 8:22 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Walt Disney Studios has announced that The Avengers will be released in 3D, when previous reports have stated that it would be released in 2D only. However, what would initially seem to be a questionably last-minute bit of mind-changing in fact turns out to have been a deliberate strategy.

As Joblo.com reports, “While it’s only now being formally announced, Whedon knew from the very beginning his film would eventually be converted to 3D saying he thought about the format “every second” while filming…Whedon says he was 100% behind the idea.”

To quote another superheroic movie franchise, “It’s all part of the plan…”

Filming an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing without anyone knowing; secretly having 3D in mind the whole time while filming The Avengers: Joss Whedon’s almost as good at springing surprising plot twists on us in real life as in his stories. »

PopWatch Confessional: I watch 'shipper fan videos. Which are your favorites?

It’s not a cool thing to admit. At all. But in the spirit of PopWatch’s sacred Confessionals, I have to admit: I’ve spent a lot of time watching fan videos on YouTube lately.

This is far from a recent development. I’ve watched many ‘shipper (relationship + supporter = ‘shipper) videos in the past, but I just had a few days off recently that were spent largely following a trail of videos after my friend sent me a great one about How I Met Your Mother’s Barney and Robin.
