Tom Cruise Returns As Lee Child’s One-Man Army In Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Trailer

22 June 2016 7:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Jack Reacher is many things. A trained killer, a lone wolf, a one-man army; all attributes channeled through Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie’s 2012 adaptation of Lee Child’s pulse-pounding novel series.

Four years later and though McQuarrie currently has his hands full with Paramount’s Mission: Impossible series – replaced at the helm by Edward Zwick – Cruise is primed to reprise his role as Child’s restless former major with Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Pegged to arrive in October, the sequel has been pitched as a relatively self-contained experience – not unlike Child’s novels – welcoming How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders into the fray as a disgraced commanding officer. Turning to Cruise’s agent in a time of need, it’s now up to Jack Reacher to shed his lone wolf status and ultimately buddy up with his newfound partner in crime.

The Leaves: Josh Radnor to direct new sci-fi drama

How I Met Your Mother's Josh Radnor is set to direct the upcoming sci-fi drama, The Leaves...

Josh Radnor, of How I Met Your Mother and Mercy Street fame, will be exploring uncharted (for him) territory as director of Lionsgate/Summit’s sci-fi drama The Leaves, the latest supernatural comic to come alive on the big screen.

This isn’t Radnor’s first time behind the camera (though it is his first paranormal one). His first venture behind the scenes was writing and directing the buzzed-about dramedy Happythankyoumoreplease, followed by Liberal Arts, which he also starred in. Both of his films received serious accolades even though neither was a box office smash.

In an uncharacteristic move, he won’t be making an onscreen appearance this time around. The Leaves is also a departure from his usual comedic material as he enters the world of science fiction. »

What will ‘How I Met Your Mother’ alum Josh Radnor bring to the sci-fi genre?

21 June 2016 3:26 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

How I Met Your Mother alum Josh Radnor is getting into sci-fi. He will direct a sci-fi drama called The Leaves, based on a Virgin Comics (now Liquid Comics) one-shot comic of the same name. Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to the graphic novel way back in 2008.  Here is the description of The Leaves on Amazon: Inspired by the real-life Naadi fortune-tellers of India and one man’s legendary experience, Doctor Max Mellick has the universe at his fingertips — a world-renown heart surgeon with a striking girlfriend and extravagant New York lifestyle. When he attends a friend's funeral in India, something deep within him is forever changed. Identified as evil by an Indian fortune-teller, Max is forced to flee the country — to save his own life, but more importantly, to preserve his destiny. Interestingly, there’s a major aspect of The Leaves’ story (which Variety mentions) that’s not in that summary. »

Cobie Smulders And Tom Cruise Buddy Up In First Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Teaser

15 June 2016 6:20 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Entertainment Tonight has offered up our first peek at action sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in motion, teeing up the action duo of Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Tom Cruise. Fast forward to the 0:40 mark to see Smudlers and Cruise kicking ass and taking names.

On board to reprise his role as the infamous Jack Reacher, Cruise’s not-so-tall agent clearly hasn’t lost his edge in the intervening years since Christopher McQuarrie’s sleeper hit arrived, here seen upending a standard arrest in a remote diner and sending two seemingly corrupt police officers behind bars.

Pitched as a relatively self-contained action movie, Never Go Back takes inspiration from Lee Child’s 2013 novel of the same name, following Cruise’s war hero as he journeys “back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman.”

That commanding officer is Cobie Smulders, who turns to her own ally in a time of need. Robert Catrini, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge, Patrick Heusinger, Holt McCallany and Austin Hebert are also set to star in Paramount’s high-octane sequel.

Tom Cruise reprises his role as the world-famous drifter when Jack Reacher: Never Go Back makes a beeline for theaters on October 21.

People has today premiered our first look at Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the action sequel that welcomes Tom Cruise back in the title role.

He’s in a spot of bother with the law, too, with one of two images showcasing Cruise’s enigmatic ex-army man in cuffs. Franchise newcomer Cobie Smulders features in the second still, who was welcomed aboard late last year to portray a disgraced Army officer fighting to clear her name following accusations of spying.

Retaining his famous razor-sharp focus and commitment to the part, director Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai) revealed to People that Tom Cruise performed all of his own stuntwork during filming on Never Go Back: “It’s a pretty boring job to be Tom’s stunt double. He did all of his own stunts. It’s almost a hallmark of what he does. He does every bit of it himself. »
