Snoop Dogg and director Allen Hughes are teaming up for an HBO drama series that will be written by Rodney Barnes ("The Boondocks," "Everybody Hates Chris"). Currently untitled, the project will be set in early 1980s Los Angeles, and will follow a family whose seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when politics meets community, and the 2 collide. That's all HBO has revealed about the story thus far. I can only assume Snoop Dogg's history, as someone who grew up in the La area of the period, will influence the story here, as well as Reaganomics... but I'm certainly curious. This will mark at least the 2nd period peace, set in the late 1970s/early 1980s, that will feature black casts, potentially heading to a TV screen near you in next TV season - the other being Netflix's musical drama, "The Get Down," which will unfold over 13 episodes (each »

The Walking Dead crew may have found a home in Alexandria, but that doesn't mean they're safe, as evidenced in Sunday's episode of the hit AMC zombie drama. Warning, spoilers! Seriously, turn away now! Noah, we hardly knew ye. Everybody Hates Chris star Tyler James Williams' character met the ultimate end in perhaps the most gruesome death the show has ever done. Seriously. Hey, if you're going to go, you might as well go big. While on a supply run, things took a terrible turn when Aiden (Daniel Bonjour) shot a zombie wearing combat armor. That combat armor included a grenade. Oops. The resulting blast caused life-threatening head trauma for Tara (Alanna Masterson) and ultimately »
Fresh off the Boat has an uphill battle ahead of it, and not just because it’s a slow-moving comedy without the benefit of many familiar faces.
I’d hope for something with a bit more “quick start” potential for Randall Park, because he’s a talented guy, and while this could eventually win people over, it may not get the chance.
Though based on a real memoir, the show is unfortunately “Asian Goldbergs” in its delivery, which features the same character narration and ode to a previous decade motif. It also blends in equal parts, “herds of white people are funny because…,” and, “growing up Asian amid the herd is difficult because…,” humor which frequently makes the show feel like translated stand-up instead of a purposeful telling of a (by all accounts) hilarious and insightful memoir.
It isn’t that the show is bad, but it takes quite a while to get moving. »

Our sister site Deadline reports that the Walking Dead actor has joined the long-running CBS procedural’s latest planted spinoff pilot in the role of Monty, a tech analyst who stays at home to liaison with the victims’ families while the rest of the Bau team trots the globe, tending to the crises of Americans abroad.
A familiar face from the current season of The Walking Dead has joined CBS’ new Criminal Minds project. Tyler James Williams, who plays the caring hospital-cult survivor Noah on the AMC hit, has landed a series regular role on the as-yet-untitled Minds implanted spinoff. Williams’ character is described as “sweet and incredibly smart. As the team’s tech analyst, Monty stays at home while the team works abroad. His attention to detail and kind manner are invaluable as he liaises with the families of those in trouble and uses his tech savvy to help the team fill in the holes »
