Storyline

Motivated by his childhood experiences, Emmy Award-winner/actor/comedian Chris Rock narrates this very hilarious and touching story of a teenager growing up as the oldest of three children in Brooklyn, NY, in 1982. 1982 is the year that Chris (Tyler James Williams) turns 13. Filled with dreams of being a cool teenager, Chris moves with his family from the projects to the "Bed-Stuy: Do or Die" neighborhood. As the family's emergency adult while his parents are working, he's responsible for taking care of his younger brother Drew (Tequan Richmond), who's taller and more confident than Chris, and sister Tonya (Imani Hakim), who gets all the parents' attention. Chris' rough, cost-conscious father Julius (Terry Crews) works numerous jobs to properly support his family. Sassy mom Rochelle (Tichina Arnold) runs the household on a tight budget, is very strict, and works part-time in a small real estate office. With his mom determined to see him in a good school, though Drew and Tonya go to ... Written by Alex Madison <ThatSoRaven2905>

Trivia

Chris Rock actually grew up mostly in the 1970s instead of the 1980s. But Rock felt that 70s culture has been parodied enough with shows like That '70s Show (1998) and moved the time period to the 80s. See more »

Goofs

In many episodes, the adult narrator Chris makes references to 1990s and 2000s pop culture. The series is set in the 1980s, but the narrator is in the present day looking back on his childhood. See more »

Everyone loves Chris
6 April 2006 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This show should be called Everyone Loves Chris because Chris Rock is the funniest comedian alive. This show is what was missing on our TV's. We needed a family comedy sitcom that is a bit offensive and racial. When I first saw this show I thought it was so hilarious but as it goes on it keeps getting funnier and better.Chris Rock is the only guy that can find something funny out of his old horrible past.E.g. He make jokes about racism and him getting beat up when it actually happened to him.If he turned this show into a drama it will be just as good it will be full with emotion and pain. But this sitcom doesn't focus on the pain.It makes us look at the funnier side of life.
