Boreanaz Pens Personal Essay For The NHL

22 December 2011 11:01 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Bones star David Boreanaz has opened up about his love for America's National Hockey League (NHL) by penning a personal essay for next year's Winter Class Game programme.

The actor portrays a hockey-obsessed FBI agent on the hit U.S. crime show, but Boreanaz admits he's just as much of a fan in real life. He reveals his father passed on his love of the game to the actor, and now he's doing the same with his own son - Jaden, aged nine.

In an excerpt from the game booklet, obtained by Entertainment Weekly, he writes, "I was about seven years old when my family and I moved from Buffalo, New York to Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). Not too long after we arrived, my dad, as a surprise, got us tickets to see the Buffalo Sabres take on the (Philadelphia) Flyers... It was exciting. He had gotten tickets in the nose-bleed section and when the Sabres scored, I cheered really loud. My dad just looked at me and I could tell that it was probably not the wisest thing to do. Even as a child I remember being taken aback by the, well, non-exuberant crowd around me as I celebrated alone in the upper decks...

"I watched the inaugural NHL Winter Classic with my dad and I remember thinking what an amazing thing it was for the city of Buffalo and for the NHL. Hockey the way it should be played: outside. Seeing the passion of the players, goalies wearing hats to keep warm. It's cool...

"Oddly enough, I play now, out in Los Angeles were I live, more than I ever did before. I play club hockey with friends and some former NHL players, and my 9 year-old son plays on a traveling team. Although I'd never pressure him - there's nothing worse than trying to force on your child the things you wanted to do as a kid - he loves it, and watching him develop with it has been incredible."

The 2012 Bridgestone Winter Classic Game between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers will take place in the U.S. on 2 January. »

The Finder Sneak Peek: He Will Hunt You Down!

20 December 2011 2:10 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

The Finder returns - or debuts, however you want to look at it - January 12 on Fox, after Bones' midseason finale, which was awkwardly pushed back until next to serve as a lead-in for the spinoff.

If you can forgive the new show for taking the place of Bones, which goes on hiatus until the spring after January 12, due to Emily Deschanel's maternity leave, it might actually be worth watching.

In the nearly three-minute sneak preview below, the Fox show's cast re-introduces - or in the case of newcomer Mercedes Masohn as Isabel (replacing Saffron Burrows' Ike), introduces - their characters.

The show follows Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults) and his unique gift, being able to track things and people no one else can. Leo (Michael Clarke Duncan) is his legal adviser, bodyguard, friend ... you name it.

Bones Promo: Remember The Finder?

13 December 2011 6:26 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Bones fans are not going to like this promo.

Not only has "The Crack in the Code" been pushed back - the last of six fall episodes filmed before star Emily Deschanel's maternity leave was supposed to air this week, but is now scheduled for Thursday, January 12 - but even the promo for the episode has been hijacked by The Finder.

The spinoff's premiere prompted the scheduling move by Fox. After January 12, Bones goes off the air until the spring, with Geoff Stults and The Finder taking its place. It's hard not to be disappointed by this.

Still, perhaps The Finder will be a pleasant surprise when given a chance to come into its own. Right now, it's only viewed in the context of depriving Bones fans of their weekly does of Booth and Brennan.

Not the best marketing. Anyway, here's the thrown-together promo for The Finder quasi-pilot from last spring, »

'Bones': Was 'The Twist in the Twister' good enough to tide us over until 2012?

9 December 2011 1:10 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

While the past few episodes of "Bones" have focused on the relationship between Booth and Brennan, "The Twist in the Twister" followed our other favorite set of new parents -- Angela and Hodgins.

Papa Montenegro came back to take care of his grandbaby, but Angela and Hodgins were initially reluctant to let the sleepless little one spend time with the rockstar grandpa. It's a good thing they relented, though, considering he is an unorthodox yet expert child caretaker. Baby bonded with grandpa, parents got sleep and were alert without the aid of Big Gulp-sized coffee. (Side note: Do they really make Big Gulp-sized coffee? Inquiring minds want to know.)

This was a cute episode, but kind of a bummer that it's the last one we're getting until January. That episode better rock, since it's the only new "Bones" we'll have until March. We'll look on the bright side, though: At »

Bones Promo: A Killer Scavenger Hunt in Episode 7.06

Bones channeled the movie Twister in the midseason finale this week.  When a man was found in a camp, the team quickly realized that the victim may have been thrown around by a tornado.  They quickly realized he was a storm chaser and dug into the tornado-chasing world to learn about his enemies.

Booth started getting very over-protective about Brennan, both at home and at work.  When he lied to her and went out with Sweets and eventually the two got stuck in a tornado with some storm chasers.  Brennan was upset that Booth didn't want her around the dangerous weather and headed out there anyway.  Later, Booth promised to tone down his overprotective behavior, but said he would do everything he could to take care of Brennan and the baby.

Angela and Hodgins have been exhausted at work because their baby hasn't been sleeping very well. »

The Finder First Look: Check Out the Official Poster For Fox's Bones Spinoff

7 December 2011 1:14 PM, PST | | See recent news »

Is Geoff Stults’ professional locator Walter Sherman in way over his head? Or is he looking for someone’s missing pet shark? Or are we reading way to much into the following key art for Fox’s upcoming Bones offshoot, The Finder?

On the surface at least, the poster conveys all the key message points about the procedural: the setting is tropical, it shares DNA with Bones, and it centers around “a different kind of detective” — in this case, a brain damaged Iraq war vet who possesses a unique ability: he can find almost anything for anybody.

Bones Sneak Peeks: Booth & Brennan Chase Tornadoes in Episode 7.05

Bones Sneak Peeks: Booth & Brennan Chase Tornadoes in Episode 7.05

A new episode of Bones will be airing this week on Fox and it will serve as the midseason finale for the show.

In the previous episode of Bones, Booth and the Jeffersonian team investigated the murder of a mail and copy shop employee whose body was chopped up and shipped through the mail (it was particularly gross, even for this show).  In the December 8 episode of Bones, Booth and Brennan come up against Mother Nature.  They pair will be investigating the mysterious death of a storm chaser.  But video footage reveals that the death may actually have been a murder, so Booth and Brennan delve into the tornado chasing subculture.

Booth starts to get incredibly protective of Brennan as her pregnancy progresses in this episode, both at home and at work.  In addition, Angela's father will be making a return appearance. »

Sundance adds premieres by Spike Lee, Stephen Frears, and more

6 December 2011 10:05 AM, PST | | See recent IFC news »

Just about every film at Sundance is a world premiere. So why is there a "Premieres" section, and how is it different than the Competition or the Spotlight or the New Frontiers or the Next or...okay, I think that's all of them. Sundance describes Premieres as "a showcase of some of the most highly anticipated dramatic films of the coming year from new and established directors" and Documentary Premieres as "about big subjects or by master filmmakers that showcase the power of the form."

Basically, what it really means is here's where you find the attention-grabbers at Sundance. These are the big honking movies, the movies featuring Hollywood directors and talent coming down from their Valhalla of craft services and video village to get their hands dirty with the independents. These are the movies that have the biggest red carpets and the majority of the press coverage (see this post).

The Sundance Film Festival (apart from Venice) remains the only major film festival that we have not yet had a chance to fully cover. Hopefully 2012 will change that situation. It is one of our goals for next year and so you should be seeing a lot of Sundance posts for the next two or so months.

Sundance has just announced their Feature and Documentary Premieres for next months line-up and it of course includes notable stand-outs including Spike Lee‘s latest Red Hook Summer, Stephen Frears‘ Lay the Favourite, Josh Radnor‘s sophomore effort, Liberal Arts with Elizabeth Olson and Joe Berlinger‘s latest documentary on Paul Simon. In other words, if you are lucky enough to attend the festival, now is the time to get even more excited.

Bones Season Finale Delayed Result of (Un)Clever Marketing

5 December 2011 4:11 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Fans of Bones will have to wait a little longer for the series finale, which will air a month after next weeks episode. As some of you may know, Bones will be going on a bit of a hiatus due to Emily Deschanel’s recently born baby, which gives plenty of room for the spinoff series The Finder. To give the illusion of calculated synchronicity, the Bones finale is being stalled so that it can be released in conjunction with the new series pilot. Instead of showing the finale on December 15th, Fox will be showing the backdoor pilot of The Finder, previously aired in April of 2011.

Bones has been doing better the ever, delivering ratings higher then ever. To capatlize on the shows success, creator Hart Hanson conceived the spin-off to focus on characters introduced in the sixth season on the island of Key West. Well, the buzz is »
