partly for hardcore fans, partly for neophytes

"Before the Three-Hour Tour" introduces people to the origins of Gilligan, Skipper, Thurston, Lovey, Ginger, Professor and Mary Ann, before they got perpetually stranded. I think that it assumes that the viewer has never seen a single "Gilligan's Island" episode (although as a fan, even I hadn't known much of what it showed.

So, it's an OK way to pass time, although almost every TV show getting released on DVD has a mini-documentary about how the show evolved, so it blurs after a while. The show itself is always the coolest part. Up on that great uncharted island in the sky, Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jim Backus (happy birthday, Jim!) and Natalie Schaefer have a lot to be proud of, as do Tina Louise, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells down here on Earth.
