Storyline

At 18, fresh from high school, Marina, Ignacio, Adam and Mimi, school mates bonded by fate, shared a dream about adult life, a dream of fame, success, perfect skin and that one endless, true love that, surely, was waiting just around the corner for each one of them. But 30's arrived, and none of the sweet promises of youth was fulfilled. Alone, failed and frustrated, all four are forced to stop and look around to try to understand where it all went wrong, and find an emergency fix for their lives, before it's too late, and happiness escapes through their fingers forever. Secondary Effects is the bitter coming of age comedy that follows their steps in the search for lost dreams, lost hair and good sex, at least, if true love turns out to be a mirage. Efectos Secundarios...Life does have consequences
14 May 2007 | by (Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico) – See all my reviews

One of my friends recommended me to go watch this movie, she had already seen it three times and thought it was fantastic; I thought that it would probably be a good comedy. It was so much more than that.

This is a smartly told story about turning 30... and realizing that not all of your dreams come true; that living here, in Mexico City has consequences, but it's also about finding yourself, taking risks, getting loose, and mostly knowing that you are not alone when it comes to feeling lost.

The directions in this film is superb, Issa Lopez is really growing as a filmmaker and as a writer, the character development is completely realistic, the cinematography is beautiful. The actors are great, and the way that comedy is developed is just great.

If you are looking for a film that has drama, smart comedy, dark irony, a fantastic soundtrack and the truth about life, you should totally watch Efectos Secundarios. It will be worth your money.
