Independent movie making at it's best

I saw this at the DCA and was amazed at what I saw. The story itself is a very good one, but what impressed me the most is what such a small cast and crew have managed to do with such limits in shooting space.

The movie has a very claustrophobic feel to it and the main 2 actors perform very well given the restraints.

The one thing i discovered after watching the movie is I simply wanted to know more about what happened afterwards. Perhaps this will be explained in some other way.

Obviously a DV movie which suggests little or no budget, I now own this on DVD and would def recommend picking a copy up.

Hard work well deserved

This is the first local film I have ever seen and although I was involved in the writing of the soundtrack it was the visual style of this film and the subject matter that convinced our band into working on this project.

Having read the mind-bending novel House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski the moment I read the synopsis for The Helix I was sold on it.

The Helix is essentially a film about relationships, however it is not just concerned about the relationship between the characters, no, it also brings another element into the picture. That of mans relationship with his environment.

Some believe that we have a constant connection with our surroundings and that our actions in turn effect the inanimate objects around us. The Helix draws on this theory and takes it to the next level. The setting becomes a character in the story.

And then it takes control.....

One thing you forget about this film as it is so well made is that it was completed with almost no budget at all. I was amazed to find out that this film was made using only one camcorder. One!!!

For a first attempt this film is a very solid piece of work with some good performances.

Given a big budget and and a cast and crew of professionals (no offence) this film could well be up their with the like of The Blair Witch Project and The Ring.
