Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart/Twilight Are the Real Threat Admonishes George Takei

15 December 2011 5:11 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

"Fellow Star folks! Cool it down!" admonishes Star Trek veteran and Star Wars: The Clone Wars guest star George Takei, 74, in this hilarious follow-up clip to the (sadly, earthbound) YouTube video wars pitting Star Trek's Captain Kirk aka William Shatner against Star Wars' Princess Leia aka Carrie Fisher. (Where are Harrison Ford and Leonard Nimoy when you most need them?)

"Each is wonderful in its own special way," Takei reassures us all. But then, as the dark background music slowly rises, Takei warns us that "what's needed today more than ever is Star Peace, for there's an ominous, mutual threat to all science fiction."

Now, what's that ominous menace to Capt. Kirk, Princess Leia, the Man from Planet X, Godzilla, and the floating fetus from 2001: A Space Odyssey?

"It's called … Twilight," Take explains, adding, "And it is really, really bad." As he speaks, we see in the »

George Takei calls for Star Wars and Star Trek fans to unite - against Twilight

14 December 2011 12:53 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Sulu actor said: 'gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie, or epic battle. In its place, we have vampires that go to high school'

It is a decades-long feud that has divided sci-fi fans for as long as the Millenium Falcon first fired up its thrusters and flashed across cinema screens, providing an alternative lure to the attractions of the USS Enterprise and its bold crew.

But after simmering tensions between the Star Trek and Star Wars communities broke into open hostilities involving two of the franchises' most iconic stars, an appeal has been made by George Takei (aka Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu from the helm of the Enterprise) for a ceasefire in the face of a mutual foe: The Twilight franchise.

"Fellow star folks. Cool it down, and shut your big worm holes," said Takei in a video message posted online following the outbreak of a war of words between William Shatner, »

Rumor Has It! Birthday Boy Sam Witwer To Voice Darth Maul On Star Wars: The Clone Wars

20 October 2011 4:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Happy Birthday to one of our favorite TV vampires, Sam Witwer, Aidan on Syfy’s Being Human. He totally sells the cold blooded monster with a heart of gold, with an élan that cannot be faked. It’s not the birthday that’s the rumor, nor is it the coolness, which is obvious. It’s a cool bit o’ casting news, and we’re really hoping it’s true.

Remember when we told you last week that Darth Maul was apparently only “nearly” dead? Or at least is in some way going to be appearing on Star Wars: The Clone Wars next spring? Well guess who is, according to Nuke The Fridge, going to voice the very tattooed Sith apprentice? Yes, the Birthday Man himself! Here’s more about Mr. Witwer and his Star Wars involvement:

Witwer is an experienced actor who has appeared in such television shows as C.S.I., »

Blu-ray Review: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3

16 October 2011 5:14 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Star Wars fan. I’ve liked Star Wars since I saw the remastered releases of the original trilogy on VHS in the mid-90s – the pre Special Edition ones – and became obsessed with the various toys, novels, video games and other ephemera over the following years. As a 12 year-old I loved seeing the films with newfangled CGI bits at the cinema in 1997 (though I’ve since looked back on those changes with rather less enthusiasm) and, in 1999, I went to see The Phantom Menace 11 times at the cinema. That’s right: 11 times.

In the years that followed I’ve become more jaded and even reluctantly began to subscribe to the popular notion of the saga as one great big cash cow being flogged mercilessly by a once gifted storyteller turned greedy businessman. But in my heart – if »

Sci-Fi's Finest Vol. 1 review

13 October 2011 5:09 PM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Compilation albums are usually aimed at collectors or fans of particular genres, be it musical styles, or in some cases, film genres. You can find all sorts of CDs containing various selections from soundtracks of films of any genre: romance, horror, or Sci-Fi / fantasy. BuySoundtrax Records gives us Sci-Fi’s Finest Volume 1, a collection of songs from some of the best – and some of the more obscure – Sci-Fi titles ever to grace the big or small screen. At times, the selections are winners, and others fall short of their intended mark.

The album has a somewhat promising beginning with the song “Science Fiction Double Feature” – the opening number from The Rocky Horror Picture Show – sung by Victoria DeMare, “Hollywood’s Hottest Scream Queen”. It is above all else a salute to all of the great old sci-fi pictures we grew up with. We then get the main theme from Battle: Los Angeles, »

Star Wars Clone Wars Season 4 Action Pose!

18 August 2011 7:49 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, season 4 is on its way. The geektastic Cartoon Network offering will premiere Friday, Sept. 16th at 8/7c. Today fans can feast their eyes on the first photo from the new season.

If you treat yourself to the series regularly then you already know the action-packed season three finale hit tv screens on April 1st. The hour-long finale featured none other than everyone’s favorite Wookiee, Chewbacca. Peter Mayhew brought Chewie to life for all in four Star Wars films: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. For this episode, cartoonists were said to have very precisely studied the way British thespian, Mayhew, walked to get the animated Chewie just right.

Being Human at Comic-Con: Sams, Showrunners and Scoop!

28 July 2011 12:27 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

A strange thing happened in the Being Human press room at Comic-Con: Everyone disappeared. While everyone else was taken to another area, our table was let in the quiet to enjoy what those in attendance had to say.

First up were showrunners, producers and married couple Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke. They discussed last year's theme - characters turning away from their demons - and how season two will force each to embrace his/her monster just a bit more.

Anyone who thought Nora might have come out of her own nightmare unscathed was wrong, and they delighted in talking about it. The characters have been through so much together by the time the series starts again, all of their inhibitions with each other have disappeared:

Comic-con 2011: TV And Movie Panels And Screenings – Update #2

27 June 2011 4:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

The second update but absolutely not the last. We have yet to hear from the major networks, Syfy, TNT or USA about their panels. More to the point, we have yet to hear from Comic-Con, at least as to the official schedule.

As you may know, they resold the returned 4-day passes on Friday, and those sold out within a couple of hours. It likely only took that long because only a certain number of people could be purchasing at one time. Returned one day tickets will go on sale shortly; if you’re interested in attempting to be amongst the lucky few who will achieve tickets, you must be following Comic-Con on Twitter for the latest updates

Information added to this update includes Locke & Key, Dexter, Shameless, Homeland, Archer, Wilfred, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Sons of Anarchy, Shark Night 3D,  Haywire, The Raven, Immortals, Thanks to THR »
