Hoping to join Smashing Pumpkins as their new guitarist? You’re not alone. Apparently more than 10,000 people have applied for the gig, which the rock band advertised earlier this month.
In a post on social media, Smashing Pumpkins confirmed they’ve received thousands of submissions for the position. “Currently, there are eight people working full-time to review each and every one,” the band wrote.

Do you play guitar? Do you know every tiny intricacy of “Cherub Rock,” “Hummer,” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings?” Are you looking for work? Will your schedule allow you to spend the summer and early fall playing arenas and stadiums across Europe and North America? If you answered yes to all of these questions, you might want to apply for a new job posting by the Smashing Pumpkins.

In its nearly 100-year history, few events have stopped the Grand Ole Opry broadcasts. And while each calendar year is different, the Opry’s weekend shows, now on Friday and Saturday nights, have more than a few times, including this year, fallen on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day. Back on Christmas Eve 1960, as Nashville was recovering from three days of snowfall and bitter cold, the Opry presented a jubilant show with Patsy Cline, Hank Snow, Archie Campbell, and Minnie Pearl. Happy holidays! Lea Michele just released her first Christmas album, and it's basically a mini Glee reunion (aka the best Christmas gift ever). Christmas in the City ($12) is inspired by Michele's childhood memories of spending the holidays in New York, the former Glee star told People. "I am finally able to share this with you! #ChristmasInTheCity coming soon," the actress and singer captioned her Instagram post revealing the cover of the 11-track album, which shows her posing in a red gown à la Carrie Bradshaw. "Can't wait to get into the holiday spirit with you guys."
Michele, who just married her husband, Zandy Reich, in March, said she's at a very happy time in her life, so releasing the album just "made sense." "It was always my dream to make a Christmas record," Michele said. "Christmas is so special to me. It's such an important time of year for me...

John Legend previewed his upcoming holiday LP, A Legendary Christmas, with two new tracks: the original “Bring Me Love” and a jazzy rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” featuring Esperanza Spalding.
On the latter Yuletide staple, Legend unfurls his dramatic vibrato over electric guitar, organ, upright bass and wild drums that veer from swinging to stuttering. Spalding adds snappy backing vocals to the track.

Two years ago, the Monkees stunned a lot of people — especially themselves — when their 50th anniversary album Good Times! hit Number 14 on the Billboard 200 and earned them some of the best reviews of their entire career. There was a lot of talk about a followup, but nobody could agree on what direction to take. “We really caught lightning in a bottle with Good Times!,” says singer Micky Dolenz. “I remember people asking about a Good Times! 2, but that didn’t fire me up. It felt too risky to try doing that again.

You pick up a lot of baggage when you live to be 100, a sentiment confirmed by the long, long movie career of Bob Hope. His unofficial status as the preeminent entertainer of the 20th century is open to debate but he was without a doubt that era’s most conspicuous comedian. Marlon Brando’s infamous dismissal, “He’ll go to the opening of a market to receive an award”, was mean-spirited but it had the sting of truth; for over eighty years Hope was everywhere, for better or worse.
Living up to his nickname, “Rapid Robert”, the 31-year old Hope shot out of the gate in 1934 with a series of quick-on-their feet comic shorts revolving around his unique presence as a leading man and comical sidekick rolled into one. It wasn’t long before he was starring in pleasantly prosaic musicals like The Big Broadcast of 1938 and handsomely mounted...

Things are finally getting interesting on this show.
Well, perhaps "interesting" is slightly too strong a word. At the very least, American Gothic Season 1 Episode 3 introduces several promising developments.
Garrett's plot throughout this installment was easily the strongest of the bunch, and that ending twist opens up some potentially great story territory.
On the flip side, Alison's was semi-interesting, but ultimately went in the cliched direction that I imagined it would. Cam, Jack, and Sophie are a bunch of walking caricatures, and Tessa is far too bland to be enjoyable at this point.
We opened on Garrett stalking a young woman at a diner, which he'd apparently been doing for days, given his little notebook full of details about her comings and goings. But before we found out who this woman was, he had an unexpected run-in with his ex, Molly.
Earlier in the season, Tessa mentioned Molly – she remarked...

Potential serial killer Mitchell Hawthorne (and his corpse) are no longer.
American Gothic Season 1 Episode 2 followed the Hawthorne family in the wake of their patriach's death, as they prepared for his funeral. More secrets came to light and more potential Sbk suspects emerged.
I've decided that Brady is the best (or at least most interesting) character, though he is honestly pretty stupid and a terrible cop.
Perhaps working with the incredibly one-note brash and ball-busting Detective Cutter (who is an actual, offensively transparent caricature of a "hard-nosed lady cop") will do Brady some good.
At the very least, she forces him to challenge his assumptions. I understand that this is TV, not reality, but the idea that Brady would completely ignore the non-laborer workers who were present when the belt wound up in the concrete was so stupid that it actually pulled me out of watching the show. There's a killer among the Hawthorne family. Maybe. Probably.
American Gothic Season 1 Episode 1 introduced the prominent Boston family that is at the center of one big mystery ("Is one of these people the infamous Silver Bells Killer?") and a bunch of smaller, decidedly less interesting mysteries.
Pilots are hard. It's difficult to introduce the audience to your TV show, establishing characters you want to root for and a world that they believe in, while simultaneously laying the groundwork for a story that the audience will want to watch unfold – something that will keep them tuning in, week after week.
Unfortunately, American Gothic is not quite there for me. Yet, anyway.
I make a point not to pass final judgment after a series premiere. Typically, I give something at least five episodes before I officially give it the boot from my TV watching schedule. This premiere didn't set anything up that...

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings brought the holiday blues to Conan Monday with a pining, web-exclusive rendition of "Please Come Home for Christmas."
Jones belted the somber, mid-tempo tune with characteristic aplomb, running vocal circles around a clever arrangement by the Dap-Kings that mixed sultry guitars, gritty horns and seasonally apt orchestral chimes.
"Please Come Home for Christmas" was originally recorded in 1960 by Charles Brown (not that Christmas sad sack) and has since been covered by an array of artists including the Eagles, Bon Jovi and Kelly Clarkson. Jones and...

Christmas came early on The Voice, with multiple holiday-themed performances happening three weeks ahead of Santa's schedule and Adam Levine and Blake Shelton receiving the gift of intact teams. In fact, both coaches pulled off near-impossible feats, with Blake's last-man-standing Cole Vosbury and all three of Adam's contestants earning spots in the semi-finals, virtually ensuring that one of them will win the Season Five trophy. (Team Adam, cough cough. Duh.)

With Thanksgiving a newly distant memory, NBC dusted off the holiday set list for its elimination episode of The Voice on Tuesday. Kelly Clarkson performed "Underneath the Tree" off her new Christmas album, Blake Shelton reunited with his season one contestant Xenia to sing "Silver Bells," and the top 6 joined together (along with a particularly overpowering Starbucks Chorus) for "O Holy Night." The remaining singers also split up to perform Florence and the Machine's "You've Got the Love" and a very well done "More Than Words" with Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt. Christmas time is here again and, once again, we’re flooded with a ton of schmaltzy Christmas episodes and specials. Now, I would never consider myself a real Grinch (furry green Grinch hat aside), but just because it’s Christmas that doesn’t mean that it’s time to make cruddy episodes of a show because you can stick your characters in some kind of holiday appropriate situation.
There are some shows that keep true to the tone of their show while celebrating Christmas in their own unique ways. The “A Very Supernatural Christmas” epsidode of “Supernatural” was, in my opinion, a brilliant example of that. The word fudging has never been so funny and the monster of the week the Winchesters found themselves battling was both horrifying and probably more fun than I should admit. It was typical dark humor mingled with heartbreak and the kind of wistfulness for...

Recently, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has become the place on network TV for great musical performances (take that, Glee!). When you've got The Roots there every single night, that shouldn't be surprising. We've already brought you Fallon's Blue Man Group-inspired "Little Drummer Boy" with Jack Black, but somehow we missed out on his rocking version o "Silver Bells" with none other than Twisted Sister's Dee Snider! Fortunately, Christmas isn't over and there's still time!

This past week’s episode of Saturday Night featured guest host Jeff Bridges. During the monologue, Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster appeared and at about the 6 min mark, the two sang a memorable duet of Silver Bells, proving why Bridges is still ‘The Dude.’

Jeff Bridges closed the 2010 "Saturday Night Live" edition with a high note. The "Tron Legacy" actor appeared in some impressive sketches which include a duet with Cookie Monster, a Nick Nolte impression, and a Dog the Bounty Hunter imprint.
In celebration of Christmas, Bridges sang a holiday tune "Silver Bells" with the help of Cookie Monster who auditioned for a part on the variety show last month. The blue monster wished for an iPad from Santa but then corrected, "cookieeeees". At the end of the song, Bridges pulled out two broken pieces of cookies from his back pocket for the "Sesame Street" character.
Bridges appeared as Nolte in "The Miley Cyrus Show" which has now become a regular sketch on "SNL". Vanessa Bayer plays Miley, admitting that she was "really high" in a video tape where she was seen smoking from a bong. Then she invited Nolte to find out...

We already made note of Blake Lively and Jessica Alba appearing in the "I Just Had Sex" video—priorities, people—but last night's Saturday Night Live also once again paid homage to our E! pals' Kim, Kourtney and Khloé and the whole Kardashian family's well-documented love of the Christmas season. (You know you're famous, and popular, when the show goes back to you again, right?) And while the holidays are reason enough to give thanks, we couldn't let another highlight go by... which is that the much-beloved Cookie Monster finally got his shot on SNL, singing "Silver Bells" with Jeff Bridges. It was the least-anticipated, most awesome Sesame Street-related bit of the...

Last night's Saturday Night Live was off the hook with a fierce performance by musical guests Eminem and Lil Wayne, who lit the stage on fire with their first duet. Host Jeff Bridges was no slouch either and perfectly nailed the mullet-headed Dog the Bounty and Nick Nolte in separate sketches that showed the Dude was having some fun this pre Christmas show, which opened with him and Sesame Street's resident Cookie Monster singing a Christmas 'Silver Bells" duet themselves. The latest must-watch Digital Short comes from Andy Samberg and special guests Lonely Island and Akon. Who sang from the tops of NYC's tallest buildings about it. Cameos with Jessica Alba, John McEnroe, and Blake Lively made this...

Sidenote: Bill Hader. The only person in the world that matters.
Monologue: Jeff looked fantastic in rustic earth tones and I can't believe it's been 27 years since he hosted. Whose idea was it to have Jeff pick up an acoustic guitar and sing "Silver Bells" with Cookie Monster? I want to perform oral sex on that person. It's official, Cookie Monster loves Eminem.
The Miley Cyrus Show: (What Happened When I Smoked Drugs: "I got, like, really high.") Jeff played Nick Nolte, Miley's interview subject. He wasn't that Nolte-esque, but he also wasn't the focus of the sketch.

Remember the wonderful early '90s sound of Wilson Phillips on songs like "Hold On," "Release Me" and "You're in Love"? Well, they are back with a Christmas album, "Christmas in Harmony," available for download and in stores now. It's the group's first album since 2004.
Wilson Phillips consists of sisters Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys) and Chynna Phillips (daughter of Michelle and John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas).
The track list from the album is below. We're sad "Hey Santa" isn't on the list -- their 1993 original holiday hit is a favorite of ours. You can also watch the lovely ladies perform "Winter Wonderland" on "Good Morning America" in the above video.

Wilson Phillips have reunited again for their fourth album, "Christmas in Harmony." It's the award-winning group's first album in over six years.
The multi-platinum trio of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips are set to release their first ever Christmas album, including their versions of classic Christmas songs like "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Silver Bells," "Little Drummer Boy," and "The Christmas Song."
The album will be led by their cover of "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday," the Roy Wood-penned 1973 classic which has since been covered by groups like the Spice Girls and the Saturdays. They're also set to perform the track on "The View" and "Good Morning America" later this year.
On "Christmas in Harmony," Wilson Phillips collaborated with Glen Ballard, best known for his work with Alanis Morissette and Michael Jackson. Ballard was also the main producer behind their self-titled debut, which yielded three #1 hits including "Hold On.

Do you love Lost so much that you just have to work it into every aspect of your life? Well, we here at TVOvermind often feel the same way. With less than 40 days left until Lost returns to take care of all your Lost withdrawals, and the heart of the Christmas season upon us, we've put together a collection of Lost-themed Christmas carols to sing around your Christmas tree (that is, if you are one of the many who celebrate Christmas).
These Christmas carols range the gamut from funny and tongue-in-cheek to sad, but all are sure to give you a good chuckle and memories of some of the Lost memory highlights from the past 5 seasons. Some of our favorites include "Smokey the Monster" (to the tune of "Frosty the Snowman"), "Island Wonderland" (the obligatory but chuckle-worthy rendition of "Winter Wonderland"), and "God Rest Ye Island Casualties" (set to "God...

George has gone quite whimsical with the music video.
Back in 1984, some of our readers weren't even born yet. And a new Christmas standard was born. Wham! was made up of Andrew Ridgely and the then-closeted George Michael, and they were pure pop confection. Their partnership didn't stand the test of time, but their new Christmas song sure did.
"Last Christmas" peaked at #2 in the U.K. 1984, unable to overcome the momentum of the Band Aid charity project, but still sold over 1 million copies, setting a record for sales for a song that didn't reach #1. It's been reissued and hit the Top 40 four times since.
But the real story is that it became a standard, alongside other contemporary songs like "White Christmas" and "Silver Bells" that we know and love. It's been covered at least 395 times. And it's one of the most enduring hits of my lifetime, charting for airplay...
