A box-office flop, making just over half its production cost worldwide.
Kathy Coleman and Wesley Eure (who played the original show Land of the Lost (1974)'s Holly and Will) shot a cameo, but it was cut when the ending was changed.
Matt Lauer tells Rick Marshall that Stephen Hawking believes his theories of time travel are "non-science". Hawking later in real life proposed that time travel is possible.
After their raft falls over "edge" the arm & hand floating in water is a "hat-tip" to the scene in "Jaws".

When Will Ferrell's character is singing with the banjo one of the lines is 'Marshall, Will and Holly'. Will Ferrell played Federal Wildlife Marshall Willenholly in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001).
The film was originally given an R rating, but was re-rated to PG-13 after cuts were made.
Before Holly Cantrell takes her shirt off and rips her pants into short, her outfit is almost an exact match to Holly Marshall's outfit in Land of the Lost (1974).
At one point, Jack Black and Kirsten Dunst were in talks to play Will and Holly, but plans fell through.
Ronald Meyer, President of Universal Studios had given a speech at the 2011 Savannah Film Festival, where he publicly disparaged the film. Meyer said "Land of the Lost (2009) was just crap. I mean, there was no excuse for it. The best intentions all went wrong."

Rick Marshall makes a reference to Purdue University when preparing to fight Enik. Whether intentional or not, the french word 'perdue' translates to 'lost'.

In Land of the Lost (1974) Holly Marshall calls the T-Rex "Grumpy". In the 2009 version Holly Cantrell says that they should call the T-Rex "Grumpy".

The original Land of the Lost series was remade in the 1990s, with Timothy Bottoms as the father, although in this version his name was Tom Porter, not Will Marshall. Bottoms and Will Ferrell are both well known for their impersonations of George W. Bush.
