Essentially - How to save the planet...
rachelsing11 July 2006
Given the scope of our energy and environmental problems, Gaia Selene is the first and maybe the only film I've seen that offers far reaching but viable solutions. Some might say colonizing the moon and mining its resources for energy to power the earth seems far fetched but don't forget, we landed on the moon almost forty years ago and then simply walked away. What if we had taken the next step, established a base, started exploiting its resources. Would we be in the same mess we're in now? The question is moot now but this movie illustrates what is possible if we find the will to return to the moon. Not only can we solve our energy and environmental crises, we can neutralize all that nuclear waste building up all over the planet. These are not pie in the sky ideas. Filmmaker Chip Proser interviews the top scientists in their fields, men who know how to get to the moon and how to do what needs to be done once we're there- all with existing technology and at a cost that makes economic sense in light of the enormous returns in terms of energy and the establishment of a new frontier.

For anyone interested in the future of our planet and in viable solutions to seemingly intractable problems (solutions you won't hear mentioned anywhere else), Gaia Selene is a must see. I highly recommend it.

An eye opening look at global warming & a unique solution.

This is an imaginative, creative and very thoughtful piece. There are great visuals mixing unbelievable computer animation, live action and a slew of interviews with a variety of knowledgeable experts, scientists and thinkers. The film is choked full of fascinating ideas and interesting solutions to the enormous and fast growing problem of global warming. These are things we all need to be thinking about. While I'm not sure why there isn't much more conversation about this extremely important topic, this film is a wonderful starting point. It's a really eye opening and creative approach. If it's true that earth has no solutions to the immense global warming problem, we better jump on the possibility of colonizing the moon as this film suggests and start generating power from the vast energy of the sun. It all seems plausible, probable and doable. So let's get going. Thanks for being so entertaining and informative in this film! Great job.

"We go to the Moon to save our civilization here."

Gaia Selene is a substantive attempt to connect the goal and purpose of going into space (and to the Moon specifically) with the goals and purpose of preserving the Earth and preventing environmental destruction. It presents the views of leading scientists that substantiate this connection and its importance as a necessary course of action.

Although the Title may have a deceptively "New Age" character, in fact the video is the opposite of fuzzy optimism or futuristic blather. It presents a set of opinions and perspectives from well informed and highly qualified scientists and is solidly optimistic and seriously upbeat.

This is an excellent reprieve from the ceaseless rain of environmental pessimism and especially welcome in that unlike the typical "forecast of doom" presentations this video addresses environmental concerns with pragmatic future solutions to serious global environmental problems. It is a significant foundation stone for space activism. Dennis Wingo, the author of MoonRush, a excellent book about the economic and environmental process of building an Earth Moon economy has succinctly summarized this position by echoing JFK: "We go to the Moon to save our civilization here." Chip Proser has done a great job of capturing the best and the brightest.
