- María Valverde was long time attached to the leading role of this film, but some differences arose between her and director Julio Medem, and she left the project. This is a matter the actress has refused to comment on several interviews.
- All the paintings by 'Ana' in the film were actually painted by Julio Medem's sister Ana Medem, who died just on the eve of a big exhibition of her work.
