This film of male bonding and anxiety over relationships and marriage is familiar territory for writer/director Ed Burns. No, not just familiar territory - it's all he does! But, at the same time, Burns gives us characters who think and speak freely of plot conventions, and are also fun characters. These characters are somewhere between the guys you'd like to hang out with, and those annoying jackass friends you avoid like the plague.
The film isn't much of a departure from "Brothers McMullen," "She's The One," or even "Sidewalks of New York". But this movie is funnier and more touching than those 3 previous efforts.
I suppose Burns wanted to stick with the Long Island male bonding stuff till he got it right. Well, he got this one right. Time for him to move on and venture into new territory.
(one complaint: too many crane shots. Burns overuses the crane shot which only takes away from the effect or point of a crane shot)
